Shotshell components???

Don Moss at one time sold factory seconds of flight stopper wads. I believe he hand fixed the issues they were rejected for.

I haven't tried either, just the old information on reloading FS wads.
Maxx Bear on YouTube makes his own FS wads from TPS unslit wads.
 
Alright, im starting to get somewhere. I made it to Ballistic Products on time, we talked for a bit, me knowing little, he set me up for a 3" Longshot buckshot load with MG42 wads, clear overshot cards, I also got BPGS gas seals and 8lbs of their super buckshot T shot.

From other members here I have Fiocchi 3" primed hulls and 2 3/4 Federal primed hulls, along with buffer, a few more BPGS and TUWSBL28 wads for tungsten loads, plus loading tools on the way along with another package of reloading manuals. And tomorrow Im sending a payment out for some nickle F shot.

Are Hornady 32cal .310 round balls for muzzleloaders good for anything in a shotgun?

Ive got a box of 100 of those .310 balls i got at a garage sale along with 22lbs of #4. I bought them for cheap with no plans and forgot about them for the most part. Is there any duplex data? Could it be mixed with #4 or #T if weights are correct or is that experimental? Not even for coyotes but a .310-#4 load might be fun on the range and ive got the shot here. Or maybe I should just buy a 4buck mold and melt it all down.

Oh boy, I just dropped 12 of those .310 balls into a MG42 wad and it looks like thats what it was made for, 2 wide the whole way up, I just got a new scale I need to weight those 12 .310. OOOOFFDAAA, that looks like a nightmare and ive felt what BBBs to the leg is like.

How about the duplex? 12 of those might be too many big balls for me...

Now that I can play around like a shotshell loader and chase shot around the ground. MG42 wad fits 6 .310 and 20 #T, i think 21 #T could fit with a little squeeze. That actually weighed less than 12 .310, I figured the #T would fill in a bit more but it looks like those .310 balls and MG42 wads were made for each other. I havent opened the antique fabric bag of #4, that looks like a can of worms. But, I will probably melt it for 4buck, but fun to talk about.

Sell the 4s locally. Shot is $50+ a bag and sucks to melt. Youll be better off selling it and buying lead to cast, if you want to do that.
 
I have used just plain old federal classic wingshot 1 7/8 oz lead BB for predator hunting for decades. Drops them dead instantly out to 65 yards for me every time with head and neck shots. I still have around 9 boxes of 25 count and one box of 2oz in 10 gauge. When i run out ill load tripple B or T lead. Did not reload shotgun at the time and it was the best bang for the buck. Was $29 for a box of 25! Stocked up.

Good, we had been talking quite a while and a group waiting behind me, I had a bit of a deer-in-the-headlights moment when he asked what shot I wanted, I blurted out "#T?" and thats what I got, and its their super buckshot, Ive got almost 5lbs of nickel #F on the way also.

I was just looking at the recipe paperwork the guy printed out and was following for me. I just realized the recipe he gave me was for a fold crimp and not a roll crimp, we had talked a bit about me roll crimping, he gave me a big bag of clear plastic overshot cards, im not sure whats up with that?
 
I really don’t sweat using a roll crimp instead of a fold crimp. From everything I read and was told a roll crimp will be less pressure than a fold crimp and also more consistent and even patterns vs a fold crimp. I use colored plastic clear learning chips from the dollar tree. They work in both 12 and 10 gauge.

I had a Federal 3" 4buck with a nasty corroded head, i cut that open for documentation i guess. Its 2oz of shot and 44gr of unknown powder, I didnt put it side by side with Longshot but looked similar. It had a short wad over loaded with shot and a gas seal under that, along with buffer. No wonder they pack a punch!

I use to use factory 3" 2oz 12 gauge loads for turkey. Think it was PMC who sold them. Shotgun scientists loaded 2.25oz. Imo the key is finding a wad tall enough to fit the complete payload in without overflowing. Imo overflowing shot blows the pattern. I found out quickly that 3/4's of 3oz payload didnt hit a 30" circle at 40 yards. Waste of shot. My 2.5 oz load alomg with a felpro gasket cork cushion wad in the base is a perfect fit with the tuff wads im using. The tuff wads are a little shorter than most 10 gauge wads. The only reason im using them is someone gave me 2 bags of 200 of them. The goofy unslit versions. They are discontinued as well. Imo ill never burn them up because theh are my turkey only loads now and not for plinking. What ever wad you plan on using fill one even to the top with shot and then weigh the payload to see how much you can load in it.

How did it pattern at longer ranges... 50 yards and beyond? Did all the shot fit in the wad? I would guess it did if they were 3.5" wads. Imo no wads or short wads and lomg range patterns dont hold up.

My guess is if the OP is loading 3" 12 gauge hes going to find out most wads tje stack height is 2oz max without overflowing. Sure you can fill it above the wad but imo your wasting shot. He will find out real quick lighter payloads will pattern tighter and at alot longer ranges.


If ypur max range is under 25 yards...closer to 20 yards then youll see more hits on paper
Farther and the overflowing massive payloads blow. A 2oz load at 40 yards will put times more pellets in a 10" circle for me vs a 3oz load. My 2
5 oz load looks like a window screen at 40 yards.
 
Thats what I figured with an overflowing cup. I was never super impressed with the federal 4buck even with testing in chokes with the other gun, theyre fun to shoot, or not, I shot a few other dirty 4buck yesterday and they sure are a sound, blast and fireball.

The reloading manuals have been delivered, I just need to pick them up, I havent looked through them yet. Do you guys know any particular wad that will fit 1 7/8-2oz buckshot? I should have a bunch of buckshot recipes to look through, I would like to find a recipe with a full cup. The MG42 wads ive got now are for 1.5oz, which is good, but if I can test other stuff I want to be able to.
