What’s your go to predator rifle?

Getting tired of this thread. About got me to thinking really hard about a new 222 Rem if I can find one. Getting to thinking my 243 is simply overkill! Boy did I like my old 788 in 222 Rem!

Lots of great choices in my safe.

I just changed out the barrel on my 22-250 this year, running a 10 twist. Have a 22br 8 twist coming in the next few months, hoping to shoot 75's of some flavor.
Still love my sixes for laying out are northern coyotes....243, 6 creed, 6br.

I’m kinda new to PM. I’ve Been reading on this forum about “Your Favorite Go To Gun”. I’ve been hunting for a long, long time. I shoot 30-06, 308, 7mm, and others. Elk, Mule Deer, Antelope, Rock Chucks, Prarie Dogs, and everything in between!! Lots of shotgun mixed in to. I’m slowing down these days though.

But for these critters: the larger frame dogs and such, Rem 700, in 243 w/75 gr. Hornady V-max. My red-Hots@ 3600fps over Varget powder. My sons like it for deer with a 100 gr. Sierra BTSP @3200fps over Varget, topped off with a Leupold 4x12x40. It’s an old set-up, but it still shoots like gangbusters!! I sure would like to try it on a hog someday! We just don’t have them in Utah, where I live anyway.

For the smaller frame critters and varmints, I built an AR 10, Aero-Precision receivers, w/a 20” barrel in 223 Wylde!! It’s a real shooter too! My fav load is 52 gr. Hornady HPBT over 25.3gr. of AR Comp@3100 fps. I put a 4x16x44 Vortex scope on it with the hold-over tic marks. I’ve taken rock chucks at about 400 yards, I didn’t have my range finder with me that day, but it was a long freakn’ shot!! Prarie Dogs are too small for my tired old eyes that far, BUT under 200 yards or so, they are toast!! That little HP will cut them right in half!!!
Glad to be part of the group!! Thanks!!

NS88. Nice rig

I've looked at them for a long time, I think one in a 1-12 twist 22 ARC 20" barrel and MPI Mannlicher stock topped with a Leupold V-3 1.5-5x20 scope would be a great calling rig. Maybe some day.

I’ll do anything to carry my 223 Mini Fix whether it’s daytime or night with a thermal mounted. I really enjoy how lightweight it is. When they start to get pressured and hang up a bit further, I switch to a Seekins Element 6 Creed. Still though, I prefer how quiet the 223 is for not buggering up spots.

Don't have a favorite really but then again don't hunt varmints much anymore either. Bought a Mossberg Patriot and a Rem 700, in 243, intending to start hunting more coyote's, haven't done it. Rifles shoot very well but I just don't go out looking for coyotes! The 700 is no longer a 243, today it is a 260 Rem. The Patriot is still a 243 and figure it will stay that way. If I had it to do over I'd be looking for a 222 Rem. You could shoot my old 788 Rem in it, and watch the bullet hit through the scope. Never could quite do that with a 223! 222 will work well out to farther than I'd shoot to begin with so range don't trip my trigger much. Boy sometimes I really get to missing that old 788!

I'm definitely a .243 fan. Was lucky to find a stock Rem700 that shot true out of the box. A new stock (nothing fancy) and bedded the barrel. Laser beam! Stock barrel threaded now. Have a couple TBAC cans to try. A 7 (6.5) and a 9 (.30). Working up loads.
