Ohio Roll Call

Brand new coyote hunter here live in Stark county and hunt deer in Belmont, getting into mainly to protect my deer herd in southern Ohio. However the more I read about it the more interested I think I get and would really think it will be a great way to "extend" my hunting season.

My initial setup will be a .222 with a 4-12 power leupold on it passed down from my grandpa, and I just got my Foxpro Spitfire in the mail today that I snatched on a tahnksgiving online sale at Cabela's. I wanted to get something that could get me started and see how much I like it before I sink a ton of money into a good caller.

This is what I will be starting with, and hoping I can have some success quickly as the dogs I will be after aren't hunted at all that I know of other than getting shot at by the occasional deer hunter.

Are tehre any other non-expensive must haves? I am a slight scent control freak, and know how to play the wind which I am sure is extremely important. I am sure I will screw up more than I do right for a while!

Glad to have ya aboard Brownie , I'm not far from ya in Akron. But am from the Navarre area in stark county . I myself started coyote hunting my deer farms to help the deer herd and it grew into coyote anywhere I could get permission to . Shoot me a pm , would be more than happy to help ya .

Intro and first post.

I'm sandwiched between Springboro and Centerville south of Dayton.

Just getting into coyote hunting I'm a fair hand with a shotgun. Shoot some benchrest, but I kinda suck.

If anyone needs a backup man, I sure could use the experience. Judy shoot me an email.

I'm trying to put a pic of a yote I killed while hunting in TN this past week.

Anyone have a place to take unskinned coyote, fox, and raccoon furs near the Canton / Akron area.

I am not much one to waste anything and would like to have a place in mind before I start trapping this year and attempting to hunt some coyotes for the first time (not expecting to do much good but I have plenty to hunt!).

Im new here from Brookville, Ohio (about halfway between dayton and Richmond Indiana on RT70). I also have land in Pike County ohio(near Lathem). I'm just getting back into it after a 3 year layoff to fish tournaments)

It is owned by Tim Phillips (second generation buyer I believe) and they are still in business. His name is on the fur buyers' list i posted and i talk with him on occassion. He buys roots as well if any of you guys are diggers.

Struggling in Springield.....Been out 4-5 times and made some pretty good stands......NOTHING.....these dogs are starting to make me fel stupid.....
Wind was pretty much out of the east south east today...so I set up with the wind in my face with big woods in front of me and more woods kinda on my right ...everything else was open with fence rows and rolling hills cattle groud.....used my Randy anderson calls...started out with the white mouth piece and did a few interagation howls ...nothing ....then I went to the hot dog and put it out there with another interagation howl.....then went into rabbit distress and called in a friggin stray cat.....second stand I set up my ICOTEC GC 300 about 50yds to my left wind in my face with open feilds and woods in front of me to my right and left.....let the caller play in cycles for about 10 mins with the decoy running ....could see like 300 yards down to my left ....should have got something there.....Sure would like to hook up with someone from my area with more experince ...and see if I'm doing anything wrong......

I'm no pro or anything but the coyotes will come in on your downwind side. So if the wind was in your face they may have snuck in behind you and winded you. Could try setting up with a crosswind.

Hope this helps some.

I am new in Perry county. Only one yote in the bag and that was last Dec. Biggin though. Just got me a TC Venture 223. and cant wait to try it out. Off next week and will hunt every day. Wish me luck.

I thought I'd check in to this thread. I'm originally from Clark County and now live in Wood County. I'd love to meet up with some folks who are close to put some dogs down.

Crawford County I havent been doing much calling this year as I am so busy killing them over the Beagles. Last weekend we killed 6 and three red Fox

The picture of with the beagles in it was taken after they bayed the yote I snuck in the briars and dumped him while he was distracted by the 4 dogs. It was a 10 yard shot with #4 Buck. The bottom picture was sundays kill.

Those are some good looking critters killahog , that middle one would make a nice rug with all the white on it .

Waiting for the storm to hit now , cant wait for it . 8-12" they are saying . Gonna try to get out tomorrow night if the winds lay down !

Been busy with work and spending to much time in a duck blind rotting. Thought I'd get out to my farm in Champaign Co this morning with this new batch of snow on the ground. Had a little female come see what all that noise was about. First time I've been out this season. Hopefully my luck holds up for the first part of 2013.
