300 yards. Next time out there I'll remember to range it. Neither are skin worthy.

Merry Christmas everyone, safe travels to those on the road or flying. My other site had visitors after I called nearby the other night. We are setup for several south wind nights and that bait is north of the blind. Probably back to the bait that has given up 5 so far, as I heard a group of coyote to the SW and I can call with a south wind.

That’s interesting about the culvert freezing a coyote’s hair, Spot. I never considered something like that. Seems you are really getting into them lately.

I am back at the shack tonight, hoping. Have had two coyotes coming every few days lately, just can’t seem to get up with them.

I have timing issues during warmer south wind events. Coyote just aren't hungry/cold enough to stay on schedule hitting baits. I sat the same blind last night, saw 2 that actually were within 100 yards as they traveled thru the field. Freezing fog and 10+ mph winds made for poor thermal visibility and didn't want to stand outside/call. I know you are patient 06, opportunity awaits. After the driveby I wish I had carried out the decoy.

It is a Flambeau decoy I always put it straight upwind at least 100 yards, with cover upwind of the decoy. This usually results in the coyote trying to get downwind of the decoy. Coyote are spooky if the only scent is mine. So I put scent near the decoy, fresh blood, Evercalm deer scent, coyote urine/gland scent. Shoot quick , they won't come back after leaving.

Last night I got coyote #3 with the new Infiray Bolt TL-35 v2. Sadly I did not get video. I pushed the record button but somehow it didn't engage. I only took a photo after the kill. I thought I had it recording. Drats. Would have been a good video, had two coyotes in view and dropped one right there. The other ran a short distance slightly over the hill contour so that I could not see all of him. I felt confident in the shot but in hindsight should have waited. I think I missed, which is only the second miss I have had in the last 13 seasons. Regardless, I got photos. Trail camera videos show three coyotes at the bait recently on the 20th. I knew there were two coming and then a 2-pointer earlier. I think they may be running together now, minus the 2-pointer I got last night.

I used the Weatherby Vanguard 25-06 with 70 gr. Sierra Blitz Kings. There was no exit, which is amazing from a 25-06. Velocity is slightly over 3400 fps.

Bullet Impact is a little higher than the larger blood spot.

Thanks, guys. Spot, you are right about the 25-06. It is a real hammer, very accurate too. I still have tight bolt close sometimes on a loaded round, but it is an accurate one with those 70 gr. Blitz Kings. The 25-06 is way more gun than I need, but I just like to mix things up a little sometimes. I get bored with the same thing all the time. The 6mm Remington I have been using and the Grendel are both hammers too.

How many coyotes on average are showing up to your guys bait sites at the same time.. i had a pair show up that I killed few weeks ago but now I'm only getting single coyotes at different times throughout the night/early mornings and they appear to be different sized dogs

Singles now.. my activity changes in mid January until late February.. multiple targets most of the time….

My experience is similar to Markzero. I usually just have singles show up, but from about this time through early spring like into March, I have doubles frequently. Surprisingly, many times the doubles are males. Triples are more rare for me but I have had them every now and then.
