NYS Coyote Hunters

WEnt with a buddy of mine down to his hunting camp near Oneonta. LOTSA snow still down there. The yotes had started digging up the carcasses from deer camp. Setup but never saw them come in. My calling doesn't seem to work. Oh well. It was an awesome day and night in the woods. The moon was really awesome.

Took a look at a new spot near my house, open fields, wood edges and RR tracks. Gonna go within the next few days.

Hey...BHW...nice artical in Pred Xtreme...I believe that was yours. Turkey tactics...

Soon....very soon....

Called in my first Yote. Super awesome. Setup with the wind in my face, 6am. I was in a treestand over looking two fields and some thick stuff on my left. I made on sequence of rabbit distress with an old Burnham Fox Call "Long Range". Hehehe. It was my grandfathers. After I called I watched a group of does behind and downwind of me. When I turned back aroun there was a yote in the field, parralleling me. I guessed the range to be 200yds and shot low. It was more like 275. [beeep]. But, I am super excited to have called one in at all. I was also using my grandfathers Sako triple deuce. So...it was definitely me, not the gun. I watched that dog run non stop for over a half mile. Hehehe. Poor buggar probably is still runnin....

I went out on Saturday morning and did some calling. Nothing came in will have to wait until October now. Just over 6 months to go. I got trout on Thursday and turkey in May.

Since the season has been over I have heard more coyotes howling at night than I have heard all season? I thought they were suspose to be more vocal in Jan and Feb? Also I put some roadkill dear out allmost a month ago and had a camera on them, I went out through the woods today were I had the deer piled, to disc a field and I saw that the Yotes dragged the deer carcasses over 75 yards from where I left the carcasses. Amazing strength they must have!!

Had to share a couple of pics of my cat from last year.
In the outside pics the wind is really blowing his fur.

Hey NY'ers. Is it tooooo cold for you guys? LOL Time to put some warmer clothes on and hit the woods.

Smoker, Cat was done by Bob Borows over here in Delhi.

Shamed to say it....I haven't been out chasing predators. That's about to change though.

I was just reading some earlier posts on this thread and i thought that i would share some info....As far as chasing with dogs...i personally don't agree with it but to each their own. i have found that some of the best sites are on neighboring property were people on sleds and with dogs are not allowed on. Also, hunting the night after people go through chasing with their sleds and dogs is a great time for locator howls. The pressure is off at night and sometimes packs get split up so a locator howl seems to work.
Early dawn hunting don't be afraid to pack your turkey decoys out and give them some turkey in distress!! Seems to work wonders especially around cut cornfields or fields that farmers spread manure! Seems like every turkey season i have a coyote or three investigating my turkey decoys. Give it a try...you'll be surprised!
Anyways, goodluck this year guys and girls...i have a feeling it's going to be a long cold one for you all!

HEy yall, i live in pulaski NY and hunt from ellisburg to Mexico and all the surrounding areas, well mainly trap, just getting into the hunting aspect of k9s

Hey jinxed..when i started huntin yotes i used a hen decoy cause its all i had it worked good enuff so shes been on every sit ever since. The first thing they see is her then thier tastebuds due'em in.

Yeah....I don't know why more people don't use em...especially during the daytime. I first stumbled on this idea a few years ago when I was turkey hunting in the spring, when a coyote busted out of the woods right next to me and attacked my decoys! Scared the crap out of me at first...then it happened a couple of more times too me while turkey hunting. Two years ago, my brother was calling at some gobblers that were answering quite aggressively and coming in. When they finally came in, my brother was lining up for a shot on a gobbler when they all took off running. My brother looked off to his right and standing about five yards away was a big male coyote. It must have seen him move cause it just stood there looking at him for about five minutes before wandering off behind him.
I must admit i haven't used them too much recently cause most of my hunting is done at night but rest assured I will be using them alot more on some day hunts coming up!
