NYS Coyote Hunters

Neat photo. Bob, at least let the poor guy have one last minute of glory. Then pop his butt!! Heck, if they get stuck like domestic canines getting both should be a cinch. LOL Now that would be something!

Yep, Perri....go figure that angle out.
You'd need a good penetrating round for that shot....and I'd surely bet they come loose real fast...

Morbid me....

Bob

What's up fella? Went out tonight for an hour or so. The winds was really kicking in these parts. No pics of coyote but thought I'd share a couple of pics of tonights stand location.

Good hunting.

Perri

The pond is about 200 yards. Wind comes from right to left. Was hoping to call them from straight out or slightly from the left.

This shot is looking straight to my left as I was looking towards the pond. Darkness came quickly. The wind made it feel a lot coolet than it looks.

that looks like real coyote country there , mister.

my daughter and I made one stand before dark last nite. The leaves in the woods were crunchy, to my surprize . we didnt have any come in but we enjoyed the time out together.

I wanted to try some new calls that ninthinning gave me , thats right( GAVE ME). He's a custom call maker from our area, and he contacted me this week because he wants me to field test his handywork. you should see these things , there beautiful. he gave me a cow horn howler, an 8 inch burl maple howler , and a small wood sqeeler. they sound great in the woods, very rich tones.

i'll try to get some pic posted for you guys to check out tonight.

James,

Nice calls! Wow , they're a world different from the commercial jobs.

Goose,

Haven't heard them lately. Think I scared them to another part of the State. May try a little later tonight like around 10:00pm for an hour.

Bob,

You've been quiet. Come on now, let us in on the secret??????

freebm,

they sound alot better than the production calls i have, too.
if you go to the "hand calls" section, ninthinning has a thread , and there youll find his link to his e-bay store if you want to look at what he has .

I was eyeballing another cowhorn howler there. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Well Perri,

This weekend was windy around here, and Sat. we had some snow, but nothing great. We thought with the full moon, we'd be able to get some night hunting scheduled, but nothing panned out. The winds were too high, and the snow melted, leaving visibility pretty poor we figured, but as it turned out, the moon never showed itself due to cloud cover.
I said to hell with it, and played catch up on vehicle maintenance.

Just because I blew it off....I paid my pennance....Sunday morning when I got up, with coffee in hand, I strolled over to our double doors that open out onto our deck, and looking out, what do I see ?????????
A nice female coyote standing behind the trees over in my neighbors back yard !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My dog was out and the coyote was about 225yds. from our yard, just standing there.
My mutt was oblivious to the coyote's presence, but he likes to run around our yard barking his head off at nothing, and when he opened up with his incessant yapping, the coyote got spooked and headed across the field away from us.
I'm positive it was a female, and she had a nice pelt. Around this time of year, you see them out in the fields quite often around here.

Quite frustrating really....but that's the way it goes I guess.

This last week, or so, of hunting might show some promise.

Take care,
Bob

did you guys see today's (Monday 3/20) D & C front page? All about the local coyote hunting contest and all the debate! Good Grief!

hey guys. the same thing is going on over here in the buffalo suburbs.(well not to that extent) a local outdoor writer , will elliott, had an article in the buffalo news a couple weeks back about coyote hunting with dogs. it was interesting. anyway, this past sunday in the opinion letters writing back to the readers, people wrote that hunting is inhumane and and that tracking down coyotes with dogs and shooting them is "unfair" and it is like legalized dog fighting? the one writer states that dogs are running coyotes on her posted property without permission. well, i can see why she would be upset with that part of it. the anti-hunters are going to complain about whatever kind of hunting it is! it's not just predator hunting, it's deer, turkey's, rabbits, whatever. it's going to be a debate forever!! that was not cool of that guy to put a skinned coyote on the front lawn of that other guy though. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif we don't need that. just my opinion.

Bob,
At least you know they're still around. I'll be out this evening. The wind has slowed down a bit. Even if it picks back up I'm going!!

Say does anyone have a link to those articles? I'm not familiar with the newspapers out there.

I used to hunt with a guy that instisted on hanging woodchucks from fence posts and shooting from just off the road (legal). Even though we're in a rural area, I would say to him some people don't appreciate that stuff. Heck, I didn't want my kids seeings dead woodchucks hanging from fence post on our Sunday drives...You can say that dead animals are a part of life, but they usually don't naturally occur hanging from fence post!! We should not feel guilty for our beliefs and passion for outdoor sports, but we certainly shouldn't make ourselves targets and be agitators either. IMHO.

We're going down to the wire. Anybody care to make a small bet? How about a friendly bet to the first guy to shoot a coyote starting at from 6:00pm tonight 3/20/06 through say 12 noon on Sunday (season close)? The coyote has to be CALLED in. I'd be willing to throw in a box of "white label" 14 HMR, 22 mag, 222, etc. (no exotic stuff guys, I'm not wealthy) to the winner. One winner, first coyote shot and pic posted online here. Your word is your bond. If you say you'll be in it that's enough..blah.. blah.. blah. Any takers? Must be in NYS and a regular in this thread. Let's close the season with a bang.

KeeKee, is this post permissible? If not I'll scrap the
idea.

Good hunting,

Perri

Last nite, I howled and turned on the foxpro rabbit # 1. Moments later, eyes sets of eyes appear and slowly make their way right to the call.... THEY WERE DEER! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

That's how it's been for me lately, no coyote action.
