NYS Coyote Hunters

shack270,what is the web address for the huntny forum?I tried a Google search but got nothing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Well, guess that's it for the 2005-2006 season. Things were very slow for me. Going to try and shoot a few chucks this year. At the same time, will be vigilant looking for predator sign.

Oh yeah, Bark at the Moon is nice forum. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Well fellas- We hit the last week here pretty hard and got nothing to show for it. Hunted Wed, Thur, Fri, Sat, & Sun. No vocalazations or sightings period. Not a very pleasant way to end the season but it was pretty good overall. Saw a total of 19 (didn't start till Jan. 5)coyotes and took 4 within our group. Three at night and 1 during the day. Had some great times in the predator woods and look forward to next year. Stay Safe boys_M4. It's Gobble Gobble time!!!!!!!!!!

All I can say is... thank goodness that it is over (and I never say that), it was slow for me and everything seemed to go wrong, from equipment breaking to missing. Strangely enough, I had alot of fun, won some neats calls and videos on various internet contest, and enjoyed the season.

Good luck to all turkey hunters

hey guys. i'm bummed now that the season is over. at least we have turkey season coming up! as far as this past weekend, well you couldn't ask for better weather conditions. friday evening called in a fox. saturday hunted all day and didn't get a response? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif except for crows and owls!! man the owls were really active. but, all in all it's just nice being outdoors!! good luck to you turkey hunters out there!! goose212 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Welp......that's it for another year....
Dennis (hunting pal) got the one early on....but me, nada. Saw three, but not in the scope where it counts.

Speaking of woodchucks, while out coyote hunting the last couple of days, I couldn't help myself and blasted a few. Dennis nailed one with his .243, and I sent a couple to Allah with my 250 (heehee).
The chucks are running all over with the better weather and all. I always enjoy the chuck season as it allows me some "tune up time". Hate the heat though....I'm a fall & winter person really.

Speaking of old Dennis, the rotten bastard got a beautiful Sako SS short model in .243 with the fiber stock and all. The barrel is fluted and it's just gorgeous. He kept it in the gun case and decided to pull it out when we got to where we were headed. He wouldn't tell me what he paid for it either.....drool, drool.

I told him that I'm putting the "misfire hex" on him if a coyote does appear, for not spilling the beans.

Good luck to all on turkeys and chucks for the "off
months".

PS.......Goose, you're right about those owls......they chased us out of the woods on Sunday. They were all over the place and once we started in on the distress calls they went nuts. The most owls I've seen in one woods.

Take care,
Bob

Hi Bob,

Good to see you made it out the last couple of days. THe chucks are moving here too.

Speaking of owls here are a few pics of one I found on March 19th. Looks like a small horned owl.

There was a huge Red Tailed on this bird.

At first I wasn't sure what it was.

This leaves no doubt

I think he either flew into the barbed wire fence or power-line. The hawk came along in the AM and found an easy meal.

Good Luck with the turkeys.

yeah the owls were crazy. are they mating now? it seemed like whatever sounds i did they would hoot and then they all started answering each other. it was the coolest thing!! i had one come in and land in the tree in front of me and it was checking out the preymaster. if i had my decoy out it probably would've tried to snatch it. that would of been cool to see!!

Oh, forgot to mention that when I turned the carcass over to get a better photo the stench of skunk hit me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
I had heard many times that horned owls love skunks. Guess it's true. Took some serious washing to get that fine out. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Can't believe it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Two nights in a row, coyotes open up at about 10:30pm across the river from my partners place. On the way home this AM at about 06:15 I'm 1 1/2 miles from my place and looky here!!!! A nice light colored coyote waving to me from one of the areas I hunt. Only 75 yards off the road. Stopped the car and waved back. Went 1/2 down the road and saw something over a little dip slowed down to get a better look and there's a very large red fox smiling at me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif Where were they a few weeks ago? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

And Knock-em you're right about the gobblers. Without exageration, I must have seen 8 -10 in full strut in 4 seperate groups within about 6 miles of my house. Come May 1st they'll be hiding in woodchuck holes.

Why does God have to tempt us so????

Well I don't think God has anything to do with it, I
think there's a smart squirrel somewhere sneeking onto someones computer, and checking the DEC season dates. Then he goes out and spreads the word!

Ok ok, the real word is Spring Turkey Season around the corner - to Luck! hey if your restless Trout season opens up this weekend. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
