I have a few heavy barrel rifles and a few sporter barrel varmint rifles. I have occaisonally used the heavy barrels in the past. But I much prefer a sporter barrel. A sporter can be just as accurate as a heavy barrel, but the sporter will heat up faster. The heating of a barrel should never be an issue calling coyotes. As far as caliber, you can’t go wrong with the 223, or 22-250. I have both, and if forced to pick one, it would not be easy, but it would be 22-250. I do not save furs at todays prices.
