I'm on DAY 7 of being nicotine free. I've chewed snuff for 20 yrs and tried quitting several times. I've been following this thread and I am going to kick the habit for good this time. Day 4 and 5 really sucked. Thanks guys, Wade

Way to go Chupa!

I sat beside a guy playing cards on New Year's Eve. He was dipping Cope and spitting in a bottle. The smell of his breath and the stinking bottle almost made me sick to my stomach.

It made me wonder how many of my friends and family have felt the same way about my stinking habit over all of those years that I dipped and spit in a nasty-a$$ cup or bottle.

Hey Brother!

I am pulling for you!

I would think everyday would get better once you get past the first week!

Hang in there all of you kicking a nasty habit!

Congratulations guys. It ain't easy but it sure as heck is worth it to your loved ones and yourself. Now the holidays are over and we get back into routines again it may be a little stressful. I found if I kept a daily balance of my 'New shotgun fund" it sure helped. I just tossed what I spent on tobacco or Cope into a coffee can each day. It is amazing how fast it adds up. I started with less expensive things to get the reward faster. NO it isn't cheating it is great planning and psychological warfare. Start with a couple custom calls, or that real wizzy custom knife you thought you couldn't afford. Work up to that custom rifle you always wanted or a weekend getaway with 'Whatsername".

Hubba! hubba!

Hang in there guys there's lots of us pulling for you.

I'm still stuck under the wagon. The want to quit is there but I'm still chewing this nasty snuff. Last time I quit for a year then I started again for some stupid reason or another. But I can't shake it this time. My last attempt the wife made me get more so I'd quit being such a butthole. With all that being said the fight is not over I'm going to quit starting in the morning.
Great job to all that have succeeded thus far!!!

Good for those that are quiting..
I used to be a can of Cope and two packs of reds a day..(in the Marines) wasn't worried about my health when I was being shot at..
Anyways, i stopped cold turkey the cope first and then the smoking.. I can tell you the cope was harder.. The key is to take it one day and sometimes one hour at a time. If you fall off the wagon.. It's ok, don't give up.. Just start again the next day and stick with it..
I haven't smoked or dipped in years and after the first year it gets easier and easier.. You get to the point where you don't want it at all.
Good luck and stick with it.

Good job all you guys. Easiest way to quit is never start. I had a lot of pressure in the Marines to start dipping or smoking and I always said no thanks. I am glad I did. Keep at it.

The is a website: killthecan.org. It explains the symptoms of quitting. What to expect while going through the transition of becoming tobacco free. There is also a message board that has a support system, and a blow to just blow off steam when you get frustrated. Best of luck to all of you.

You may want to try the Commit lozenges, which work like a pill that you tuck between your cheek and gum. It has been almost a year for me and I would not have made it through the first few months AND coaching in the spring without the lozenges.

It's almost been a year for me and the hardest part was elk camp this year, when everyone was dipping but me. It was also pretty rough during the spring, when all of my coaches chew.
