Copenhagen

I know how hard it is guys. I started in the summer of 1989 with Redman, which progressed to skoal and then I went to Kodiak and Copenhagen. Basically, I rotated between Cope and the bear, depending on what mood I was in. For years I tried to quit and it would last for a week or a month, but then I would be back. My dad and my wife were in the dental industry and it didn't matter. The photos didn't phase me at all. The nagging just put me in a bad mood, making me want to put another one in. Then one day, I decided enough was enough and I was going to find some kind of replacement. For me, it wasn't the nicotine addiction, it was the oral fixation of having something between the cheek and gum. I tried everything. I even used coffee grounds...talk about tearing your gums to shreds. I quit on December 7, 2005, and the only thing to keep me from going back to tobacco was BACCOFF. I can not say enough for this product. It is made by chewers for chewers.

Dipstop

They also have a dip stopping program, which I didn't even try, because their cans of fake dip were enough for me.

I used to keep several cans (OK, usually 12-18) on hand in the freezer, because I never knew when I would get the urge. I have been tobacco free for 7 years now, and this product has helped me. I haven't even had to use it in over a year, so I think I have kicked the oral fixation habit. I liked the XtraWintergreen because it reminded me of Kodiak. It packs, tastes and even burns just like the real stuff. I also liked the Straight, it reminded me of Skoal long cut. I don't have any affiliation with them, but it really does work. Please try it, you owe it to yourself, family and kids. Every day I look at my boys, I thank God that I quit.

My daughter 42yrs old has quit for 10 weeks now, she had pneumonia and had to have fluid drained from her lung but it hasn't got better she has a Jan. 2nd appointment with a lung specialist, every day I pray it is not to little to late.

I went looking for this thread this evening since it fell off of the front page...

Sorry to hear about your daughter Rodbender. It's unfortunate that it got to that point. I hope she pulls through this deal.

Still riding high on the wagon since 12/18! I have been alittle irritable though! Everyone stay tuff, you can do it.

I never put a cigarette anywhere near my mouth as I think it is the most disgusting habit in the world so I cant help anyone with that. I did however chew off and on for a year or so in my early teens. It was pretty easy for me to quit as I dont think I really ever got addicted. I just did it on occassion and decided one day I was done altogether. Alcohol is another story. I first started drinking when I was about 16 up until I was about 19 and drank every weekend with my buddies and sometimes during the week. I remember showing up for school 5th period one day still drunk I had so much the night before. The thing that did it in for me on the drinking was something that actually happened at a party. A buddy and me both went and bought two pints of Vodka each with a couple two liters of Fruit punch. We decided we was going to have ourselves a competition and mixed up our first pints of Vodka with equal amounts of fruit punch and then went shot for shot until it was all gone. We then decided we would down the second pint straight from the bottles to see who could finish first. After all was said and done I decided I wanted to play a little card game called Cirle of Death with Wild Turkey 101 in the middle. 30 minutes later and I was half naked burning up on the bathroom floor and puked for 6 hours. I never felt so sick in my life. The next morning I decided I had enough of that crap and havent been drunk since. Even talking about that night makes me feel sick to my stomach. My two little girls also help steer me clear of the stuff. Good luck to those of you who are quiting and those of you that want to quit. You can do it!

Quit dipping after 14 years cold turkey on 10/29/11. I miss it but between the indigestion and sore gums I'm good without. Best of luck those trying to quit.

I used sunflower seeds and chewed on straws from time to time.

I could use a dip right now... Been having a few drinks.. Kinda want it. But I do not drink and drive... so I will stay strong!

How are the rest of ya doing?

Clayne, I was wondering how you were holding up with the holidays and all. Glad to see you are still hanging in there. A couple more days and it will be a fresh new year, and you'll be well on your way to beating this stuff.

I chewed Days O Work for years then got hooked on copenhagen when I got an office job.
I quit last spring cold turkey.
You will need to tell your friends that dip to punch you in the mouth if you ask for a dip.

Hang tough.

Long time lurker and first time poster - stay strong and don't beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon. I quit smoking after 30 years and it was tough. I changed from a smoker to a nicotine gum chewer for a few years and finally gave it up completely. Best of luck and good wishes to all of you. Nicotine is insidiously addictive and is one of the hardest drugs to kick!

I think I got it whipped, after a new years party standing there with an open can sniffing it. and handing it back to my Buddie that was egging me on. Drinking makes me want it more. and if I said no at that party I think I can say no any time. ha ha

How are the rest of you guys doing?
