Bought my first thermal

Think I got it squared away now. All screws and mounts are still touched to spec and the rifles shooting great.

I don’t think my X and Y axis was saving correctly (probably my fault). Did a software update and zeroed again. Took the scope off, turned the unit off and removed the battery after. Verified zero after and it’s still dead on.

I recently changed ammo, re-zeroed shot 4-5 times make sure I was good. Turned off and back on, still good. I zeroed using my PIP on base magnification, then cranked that sucker up to 12x to make sure I was holding zero on a magnification change. All good

Alright guys, thank you all for the advice and help. Got home from work this afternoon and decided to give it hell tonight. It’s -5 with a nasty windchill.

Regardless, the coyotes were on fire tonight! I freakin nailed 8 tonight! Started at 6:30 and finishing up now at 3 am. I’m frozen and my rangefinder on the thermal went down (I’m guessing because of the cold). According to onX line distance, most shots were between 150-280 yards. Estimating distance is a little tricky but I feel like I can identify coyotes 600-500 yards and in. Missed a few still because of rushed shots. Zero seems to be holding well.

I’m actually not thrilled with the thermal. The rangefinder going down sucked and the shot activated recording didn’t activate on the majority of shots.

Definitely need a scanner but I’m surprised I’ve been as successful as I have been.

I dropped the first 4 off at a buddy’s that keeps fur. Wish I would have held onto them so I could get a @Infidel 762 level picture haha.

I’d say you had a great night, despite the rangefinder issue and tough conditions. Minus 5 and windy isn’t for the faint of heart! You earned those coyotes buddy! Great job, and congratulations.

Since Thursday we’ve had 2-5 feet of lake effect snow dumped across the region. No warmup in the near future to pack things up. What was lousy conditions just got a lot worse around here. Can’t seem to catch a break so far this year.

Stay after them man! I count on guys like you here on PM to get me through these rough patches! Lol… Congrats again.

Wow you have it figured out now for sure! Inspirational for sure, it's well above zero here but still colder than all winter so far. We tried a couple nights ago and the fog rolled in as we were leaving the house, couldn't see a thing. Hopefully the cold and snow will get them fired up and have a night like you had!

With your posts about day shooting at 500+, your success last night at under 300 was not a surprise to me--you are a marksman young man.
My worry for you and your wife and the little guy is that you might like this more than day hunting :giggle:. It is addictive!

I appreciate the kind words! Shooting and precisions definitely something I’ve always been addicted to.

Yeah I definitely understand how guys prefer to night hunt for sure. Luckily for me, our season ends at the end of March. My kids are a little too young to hang in the cold for now. So we’ll still be hammering it in the day light for years to come. Just in time for me to get them some night rigs haha.

Makes you wonder what you're not seeing in the daytime?
Our night season runs from Jan.1 to March 31. Hurried home from S.Texas to be home before the storm and got a couple hunts in. Had like results to yours.
If sheer numbers are the game, night hunting is the real deal. I still enjoy daytime though.

Yeah that’s for sure. That’s my biggest worry with predator hunting in general.
