Baiting

I would zero at distance to your bait(expected shooting distance) and than check point of impact at possible shorter and longer shots. You probably will be surprised at the vertical and possibly even windage difference from a standard scope. Recovered both coyote from last night. Didn't bother with pics.

NY, we are anxious to see the Talion in action, and hopefully a coyote will complete your goal. As to setting up the scope on the HMR, that's actually a good way to become familiar with it. When I got my first thermal scope, I put it on a 10/22 Ruger and shot rats at the chicken lot. It was a lot of fun.

Pertaining to having a hat made with a coyote skin, do you know a reputable place to do that, one that will guarantee that "your" skin will be the one used? I have wanted to do that for a long time, like a trapper's hat with fur on the inside. Somehow I don't trust companies to do the hat with "my" fur and not someone else's.
As far as tanning and having hat made. I have found a local guy that will do it. he sends the furs to tannery and then when he gets him back, He has a guy that makes the hats out of your fur. as far as reputable I haven't got anything back yet from him. I took him a fox fur to have a hat made like pictured. Last week I took over 3 fox two to sell and one to get tanned Plus a grey for my brother for tanning. One of those foxes had a wounded leg (another story) and had been licking his underbelly. he had some fur missing, so fur value was no good. So I decided to tan that hide. Then he came up with the idea making the hat out of that fur instead of the one that was already at tannery. apparently, they would not use that area in the hat anyways. Based on that I assuming he is really using my fur. He seems like a straight shooter but as I say I haven't got anything back yet. I know more when I get these items back. I am more than happy to give you his contact info

Hmmm I will have to check that. I know I dint have any problems with the NV scope as I was shooting some squirrel at 100 yards. But I will check it if we get a nice day. My fox bait is at 60 yards so I should be ok at that range .I better the 90-yard bait. Thanks for the tip.

Just a word to everyone, asking that you remember DoubleUp (Owen) in your prayers. His wife had a bad accident lately and on top of that, they lost a daughter. Please pray for them.

113 yards, shorter than I normally setup. I usually run 125-150 yards. When I setup baits for my paraplegic hunting buddy, he hunts from his pickup on private ground, 175 yards is required so coyote don't hear window motor. Last night I had a fail to fire round, coyote heard the firing pin strike(didn't spook it). I pulled rifle in and closed the window to chamber a new round.
This morning I pulled the round down and found the primer was not fired and had no compound. I was given a brick of Federal 210 and 210M primers, I been working out of those since I believe they are 25+ years old. I will be checking them before using anymore. That's the problem with being in tight to the bait, coyotes have great hearing. And you usually don't get a second chance.

I believe it is homemade, I'm going ask the landowner about it. Warmed up easy, don't have to run the Buddy heater all the time. Leave the pilot light going and crank it up for about 5 mins and back to pilot light. One more coyote visiting around 3-4 am. For some reason we have had several nights with NE winds, I set the blind E and slightly N of the bait. This is usually a reliable bait direction. Have another farm to hit after this one. Can use the tripod/arca out the window, very stable shooting platform.

You sure could have fooled me. Looks like metal roofing panels? Very well thought out, especially like the tall, angled corner windows. Since it is easy to heat, must be insulated?
