Baiting

This one has been a challenge, but he is still alive, for now. The main problem (my tale) is the 130 miles that separate us.

On the board for the bait this season. .22-250, 60 gr vmax at 170 yds. Dead on his feet. Nothing left inside her chest. Young female. Video later when I get time.

I shot a few with the 60 gr. V-max from a 16ā€ AR. No problem dropping coyotes with them. Congratulations, Bait.

I hope the predators come (Foxes and jackals). So far, only magpies, crows, weasels and pheasants have come.

A friend asked me to kill some coyote that are making a mess out of dead pigs at a composting site. I went there a few nights ago, but it was 98% humidity with puddles of water in front of my shoot from location. This would have made identifying difficult. But while there I did see a lot of rats, big rats. All around the composting unit. I found a rail to mount the Wraith night vision scope on my Gamo swarm 22 air rifle. Shooting 1/2" target spotters to 50' is easy. I'm going back Friday night. Bait collection, will freeze rats in 5 gal buckets. Kind of a twofer bait hunt.

I put out some free dog/cat food around areas Iā€™d caught coyotes before. I used my drill to put some bobcat meat I use for trapping down a hole. Got COLD weather coming so Iā€™m hoping something will hit on it. Stuck cameras on each site to watch.

Alarm went off at about 5:30 tonight. Just grabbed my .223 with my AGM Rattler on it because I have been absolutely overrun with possums. Well, it was a pair of coyotes on the bait at 170 yds. Wife and dog were out walking down the driveway, so was a bit rushed thinking these dogs were gonna hear them and bust out. First shot, dropped her in her tracks. Second coyote circled around down onto the pond dike at 130 yds and stopped. I think I pulled that shot, no sign of a hit and couldn't find it. #1 was a pass through with 60 gr vmax .223. Wanted double, but, I'll take one...
P.S. I usually run my 22-250 with shot activated record. Well, never thought about hitting record on the Rattler, crap. So, no video on this one. Kind of caught with my pants down, very early alarm, wife and dog out walking and yakking in the driveway, grabbed the wrong gun for what I like to use on coyotes, it was a whole thing...:)

Way to go BP! Getting it done Sir

No otters around here Hoosier but I am not surprised anymore by anything that shows up for a free meal

Keep us posted Spur - should be interesting what shows up

Interesting game plan there Spot. Should work I would think.

Knocked one down last night here. Used a new hunting tactic by deploying a Stealthcam that sends instant pics to my phone and computer so I can "hunt" from my back porch while watching TV or whatever. Anyway, had 2 show up so grabbed the rifle and made about a 120 yard fast walk out to a shooting spot and knocked one down. Seemed oddly easy in a way, but perhaps its part of the way forward.
