Baiting

I had one show up for one day when my wife collected some bait. He come in 3 or 4 times that night and once the next day, then nothing since. Of course I didn't get there until the night after...
It was a purdy good gut pile the "hammer" nailed.

Awesome buck 👍🏼👍🏼 ! Congrats !

I haven't had a coyote on the bait pile since June, but I expect them to start showing here in Jan. Been dry, real dry on this bait pile.

Nothing but skunks on the hog at my brothers. I thought my Reveal camera came back in the mail yesterday. But it was the door latch/sensor for our washing machine. Removed and installed it last night, tested the repair with some hunting clothes. Pronounced it repaired to my wife, fingers crossed today as she said she would be washing today.

Went to the deadpit again today. Had a Cow die yesterday so with fresh bait I was expecting at least some pups around. Decided to take my 6mm creedmoor target gun this time for a change of pace.
Came over the hill and found the melting snow was making it near impossible to spot coyotes. Eventually I found one walking up the hill 200 yards out.

At the first shot it seemed I missed so I searched around to find one loping away slowly. I barked it to a stop and at roughly 300 yards it jumped and and ran like a heart shot coyote sometimes does.
Figuring him dead behind the hill I swung on the next coyote that didn't seem to know what was going on. At my howl he stopped and once again took off running after being hit quite solid.
Sure enough I get out there and not a sign of a coyote anywhere.
Texted a buddy whom I know has tried any and every bullet in 6mm what his opinion on berger105's was and his immediate response was "don't do it"
Sure enough after a long search I found the second dog walking wounded in the bush and finished em off with the shotgun. Perfect behind the shoulder shot with the 6mm barely did a thing to him.
So it seems I'm doing load development again.

BP snd Yota, glad to see you having some action. Slower than heck here, for coyotes anyway. Did have a bobcat and red fox show up, and Mr. nuisance the possum.

My slow season is beginning to pick up a little bit. Night before last a trail camera on the opposite side of the farm got two coyotes, but they were not near my shack and bait. I decided to stay the night and hope. It paid off. Around midnight the female showed up. She was pretty tenacious and it took three shots to put her down for good. I don't like it. Generally I drop them with one shot. She acted as if she would leave the site and go down hill, so I didn't waste time shooting. I squeezed the trigger on the male at 6:34 in the morning.

Apparently the 90 gr. Varmageddon bullets from the 6.5 Grendel are pretty fragile. I have had excellent results with them on broadside coyotes, but the two that were facing me or 1/4 facing recently did not go go down for good like the others. I think the bullet is coming apart too quickly to get to vitals, and angle probably has something to do with it too. It does look like I was a bit too far to the right (her left side) on the female. She finally came to a rest at 40 yards from the shack. The shot was at about 50. The male was at the upper end of the bait site where it meets the field at 62 yards, and went down right there in normal fashion from the Varmageddon.

Female's final rest.

Male dropped at upper end of bait site where the field meets. Notice the two sensors. Coyotes approach from uphill to
the bait and are reluctant to come down the hill. I angle the sensors to cover the upper part and that gets them.

I used the 4-wheeler once again to carry gear to the cabin, and this time to drag the two coyotes out to the bone pile.

The bone pile is down the steep hillside beyond the 4-wheeler. There are a lot of coyote bones over that hill.

Which 105 Bergers are you using? There's Hunting VLD's, Target VLD's, and Hybrids.

I've had nothing but good luck with Hunting VLD's out of several 6x47 Lapuas......

I believe hybrids are what I'm shooting. The rifle same with a huge pile of them so that's what I have been shooting. Hit another today at 300 that dropped hard got up spun a few times and took off.

Getting on a roll 6mm06, stay hot. Had the last weekend of muzzleloader season, spent much of it with CO working on a trespassing/road shooting issue. Than spent a night watching for equipment thieves returning to the scene of the crime. Thermal was handy knowing it was safe to go into the property at midnight. Did see 2 coyote hunting a road ditch, thought they were going to show at a road kill deer I put out for bait and was watching.

Try the 108 eldms. That’s what I shoot out of my 6 cm. It hammers coyotes
