Baiting

Spot, that is a real plan. I have tried calling at the bait numerous times to no avail. Of course there has to be a coyote within hearing distance, which I don’t think happens here with any regularity.

My brother is hearing coyote again, his wife doesn't want any missing cats. I was able to get a 275 ish# hog, put it out Sat. My new cellular tactacam game cam is headed for repairs(WIFI issue). So I will have to rely on a semi-froze hog to last until I can check/hunt. Going to use the cellular cam as an "instant" warning/visitor notice so I can keep the blind closed up for warmth and we don't have much snow to help with seeing visitors.

Nice male from the deadpit this morning. Il try to remember to post more on here as I get them. The fresh cow has coyotes putting caution to the wind. This one was one of 4 that was on it at noon yesterday.

Bait, I have you beat. I have a possum on mine!!! Lol. Slower than heck here.

Yota, good job on that one. Looking forward to more photos. Interested in hearing about your setup. Photos would be nice. We all like to see how others are doing it.

It's nowhere near as fancy as some of you guys! Just happens to be in a great spot. It's our feedlot dead pit so any animals that don't make it get put in this single hole. There is a series of hills that get me 100-300 yards away depending on wind direction. This particular hill gets me 150 yards with a good look into the hole. Usual approach is to get in position and bark to get them out of the hole to shoot.
Here's a photo I took through my scope at this coyote

Yota, do you hunt from a blind, or just ground concealment? Do you night hunt also?

Here, coyotes come at night probably 99% of the time.

Just ground hunt with decent camo. The large hole offers a moment to get into position. Usually if I'm walking to one of the more open shooting positions I will walk crouched and hit the deck as soon as the birds fly up. If there's a coyote in there he will come to see what's going on then usually go back down giving me a chance to get in position.
sadly no night hunting here in Canada. Its a very fine line I have to walk when shooting because too much pressure will turn them nocturnal and I'm out of luck. One year I set a camera when they had gone nocturnal and in a week I had over 1000 pictures and not a single one was in the daylight.

That’s tough when they go nocturnal. If not for night hunting and night vision I would not be able to hunt over bait. Wouldn’t be worth my time. In the last 12 years, if I recall correctly, I have taken two coyotes over bait in daylight hours. All the rest have been at various times throughout the night.

Yeah if I could use thermal the stack would get pretty high in short time. Though the interesting thing is if I leave it alone for a few weeks they come back during the day. I didn't go for 2 months last year and at one point counted 21 of them at 9 o clock
