Baiting

Same bad year hear.Had only one coyote come all year.I think because of the super deep snow they are just holding up around winter killed deer and moving as little as possible.

Surely next season will be better. I think we all have had a tough year.

FishSqueezer, you will love Africa. I had to keep reminding myself that I wasn't on Dad's old grown-up farm back home. That was the real deal, complete with cheetah and leopards, not to mention black mambas. The guides wouldn't let me off the truck much at night when calling.

This one is for you fishsqueezer, S. Africa, daytime, Primos jack rabbit closed reed. Took about 3 minutes. I was bowhunting but borrowed the guides rifle.

and my wife enjoyed our trip as well

Hey guys, hope this is not Interrupting too much, but can you let me know if the Chamberlain is the preferred remote alarm?
I have read and read this thread, but it is very long.

A brief response would be great, and enjoy your Safari!

J.C., some guys like the Chamberlain and others use other devices. DoubleUp and I have had very good success with the Driveway Patrols. I really like them and they are cheap.

You need to determine the distance you will be shooting and then begin looking at a sensor that will work that far. DoubleUp uses his Driveway Patrol at 145 yards while I only use mine at 60 yards. But also, his sensor is modified with antennas to give a little range to it.

Weekender, nice photos, and no doubt some great hunts.

I have 2 Chamberlains and 1 Dakota. The Chamberlains work fine but not all transmitters work well it seems like I need to return 1 out of every 3 to get a good one then no problems.I am not sure how far the Chamberlain will reach but 100-120yds is the most I have used them. I also use one transmiter as a door yard alarm at the same time the other transmitter gaurds the bait. The transmitter in the Chamberlain is also smaller so it does not spook coyotes like the larger Dakota.
I have a buddie that switched to all Dakotas and prefers tham but I just had to return mine after 40+ days I still did not get it working good enough but maybe it was a defect. I should get my replacement back any day now.

This is my first winter with the model 2000 chamberlain or any sensor for that matter. It is supposed to be good to 800 ft. I believe. My bait is at 250 yds. from the base unit. I too had to send one sensor back because it quit working. So far I'm happy. Dreamer

I purchased a Chamberlain before I got the Driveway Patrol. I just couldn't get it to work properly and ended up sending it back for a refund (Sportsman's Guide). I had gray fox walk all over it and it wouldn't alarm. Seems Scalloper and I have experienced similar problems. Of course, I only used that one.

Also, I have tried two others and neither worked well. One is a cheapo that I can't remember the name. It was junk. Then I purchased a SpyPoint at quite an expense and it too doesn't work worth a hoot. Both were a waste of money.

I haven't had to think twice about the performance of the Driveway Patrol. I liked it so well that I purchased three more units.

I just built a set of the Driveway Patrols for a young Marine out in Washington. I put 24" antennas on both the sending and receiving units. I tested them here and they worked out to 250 yds. I didn't try any further as 250 yds is a long reach in the dark.

I'm still using the same units I bought in the fall of 2011. I have to change the 9v batteries in the sending units about every 3 or 4 months, but can tell when they begin to get a little weak as they start giving false alerts during the daytime. They will still work for a pretty long time after that on the same battery if you only use them at night. Eventually they start to give false alarms at night when the batteries get weak enough, but I try to change them before then.

After I returned a couple of sensors my Chamberlains have worder fine. The guy at Radio Shack told me I may need to try more then one to get peak proformance.

Man oh man... Very new here and to yote hunting... But this thread is great reading.... If it were a sub forum, it be a heck of a lot easier to navigate....

Great tips pictures guys!

Alenfarr,

Welcome. As DoubleUp said, this is a great thread with good, helpful people. There isn't any bickering on this thread like in so many others. Just good sharing and discussion all around. Just jump right in.
