APCalls DSG Camo Ghillie Suit Sneak Peak

Got mine today, took 3 days total from my order input.
Sapper WFF, lots of room for a jacket under it for winter.
I tested it in my 80* garage & it was warm, will see it in use this weekend for the real test.

sendit223 above has a good intro review on it & I am in agreement in my inital try on..

Got my Sapper DSG yesterday. Spent a few fitting sessions to give it a once over.

I'll echo Sendit's review. The shoulder area tend to have more bare spots, even with the headpiece on. I don't know if an extra layer would help or not over the sharp bend of the shoulder. APC's photos in the original post are accurate and they show the bare spots on the shoulder. They don't distract from the effectiveness of the suit.

I'd also like a little more length, or layer of jute, on the back of the headpiece, more like the cut of the front. It seems like the current design covers the back of the neck just enough. The headpiece seems to be adequate enough but I think it would be better to have a layer of jute right under the mesh eye slot. May have been designed that way to make breathing easier.

In the big scheme of things all very minor in my opinion and shouldn't have any affect on performance in the field. It really is more asthetics and feel.

I do like the length of the sleeves and the extra jute at the cuffs. It does a great job of hiding your hands while giving a great range of motion.

The knee-length (on my 6-2 frame) is perfect.

Overall I am very pleased with the suit and looking forward to getting it out in the field.

My Sapper DSG just got here today. Fast service as usual from APC.

I have absolutely nothing to complain about this jacket and hat combo. I've used Shaggies for years and this jacket is as good or better than everything I've used. Once one comes through the jute with their fingers, the suit really balances out well.

Only modifications that I will be making is cutting the facenet out of the facemask, so that I can see and blow a call. A little trimming of the jute from my eyes and face, typical of any ghillie mod.

Very well pleased with this product. You did very well AP.

I got my sapper in DSG yesterday and have only tried it on in the house. So far, I have liked most everything about it, did remove the mesh in the face area so I can wear a ball cap to keep the sun out of my eyes. Also so not to fog up my glasses. I'm 6' and 280lbs so I ordred the XL/2XL and have plenty of room in it. The knee length is perfect. If I had knee high snake chaps, I could go hunting in shorts.

OK, now for the part I don't understand; I may be really, reeaaly, reeeaaaly slow, but I can't figure out the gun wrap for the life of me. If anybody can explain how to use it, I would appreciate the help. Just use small words and type slow. Thanks

The DSG color seems right for the edges of the rice and bean fields.

I would like to put the gun wrap on my AR but not sure if it would work either. If someone has one on their AR we need instructions and pics.

lol!

you....wrap.....your....rifle....in....the.....gun....wrap...

It's a pain on an AR, but you can loop the rope end to the barrel and start wrapping back toward the action. Then you can use the elastic loop to secure that end on the scope. Again, it's a pain to use because the string gets hung up on the action and everything else. I no longer use mine.

I'm experimenting with some other ideas like a ghillie sock for the forend/barrel and a drape for the action. The drape covers the optics and the action. It is loose on the ejection side. In this photo it has slipped back to expose the eotech sight. Normally it covers the eotech and all you can see is the 3x (unless I position the jute at the stand to cover it up).

The drape uses velcro to secure to the eotech. The sock isn't in the picture because I was tired of the long jute and it was a windy day.

Oh sendit, you funny man, funny man, HA HA.
Yeah, the string getting in the action, even on my bolt action, seemed a real possibility to me. No matter how we wrapped it, the strings were in the way of the action and scope. I was thinking of some type of sock also, maybe with elastic to hold it in place.

Me so funny. You laughing long time.

I made a camo/ghillie sock and yes elastic on one end holds it quite well. Since I've got Hogue forends on my ARs just having elastic on the end near the action holds it on there firmly. If I wasn't so lazy I'd go take a picture. But you know I have get back to my comedy routine....no time no time...

Happy 4th Shayne.

If that gun cover isn't working, take a look at the camo netting thread here:
camo netting tutorial

t/c223encore has a good idea there. I bought a ground blind made out of that stuff and it's easy to build a sleeve with zip-ties that will break up your rifle outline. I made a cover for my caller in about 10 minutes.

Just an idea.

I used some other die-cut camo to make a cover for my rifle. I may take the ghillie material off the gun wrap and add to it for more 3-D effect.
Sendit, I like the eotech ghillie. I may try something like that for my scope.
Hope everybody had a great 4th.

Well I wore my sapper out at a ranch I shoot p-dogs at. I shoot prone 100% and walk a 2 mile loop.
I didnt need my gun, it worked so well I just used a fork to jab the varmints in the neck as I could get that close and removed 256 of them that way.

Well ok now..the real test was that I could get a lot closer to them as they could not figure me out as I was crawling through the grass to line all my shooting up.
256 dead was not bad considering it was overcast all day (7am-12:30pm) and misted a few times.
I am happy with it.
I did re-sew all the yarn with my machine so its all double stitched now and a ton less strings being pulled off with the single stitched way it comes.
I also cut the face mesh out so I can use my hand calls and I can wear my camo cap with the bill that blocks sunlight into my eyes.

46.5 an hour is not bad...I'll give you that. Ok, I'd love to have a day like that just once. Or an hour even.

Just a savage FP10 in .223. Yea its been good shooting the last 4 months on the ranches. Lay in one spot for 30min-1.5hrs popping them then moving to another knoll.
Tons of pups so thats the biggest reason I am having good counts, doubles & triples on mounds when they all head for it then stop in a nice mass of fur.

Any updates with mods performed?
I dont want to start moding mine without a plan in mind.
The beanie head cover is tight enough fit its hard to get on wearing glasses so I dont know if I will be able to fit a baseball cap underneath or not.
From the neck opening to the first row of string material is about 3 inches so pretty much need the head cover to fill the gap.
The thread material that fell out after combing the suite out with my fingers pretty much filled the original box so I have been thinking of useing that material to build a ghillie boonie hat.
