Early review (form and fit only, pre-field):
I got mine in the mail today (DSG sapper). The coat is generously cut in both girth and arm length. It is long enough that I will cut back the length so it is more mid thigh than mid calf (personal preference). I will also cut back the arms and still have plenty of arm length (I'm 5' 8" and 170), otherwise the arms are WAY too long for me.
The under fabric is a nice light camo mesh. The snaps are quiet plastic, and there is elastic on both the elbows (though too big) and the wrists (though arms are too long as stated previously).
The color looks perfect for dry grass areas and should work for most terrain IMO. The ghillie string is not secured by a backing strip, rather it is directly sewed onto the fabric. This may cause a durability issue, i.e., it may shed more than others (such as the first ghillie suit I got from APC). It is also single stitched on the ghillie string -- again it makes me wonder about durability.
There is a generous amount of ghillie string, though there is not a large difference relative to the other APC ghillie. In fact, the spacing between string strips is wider on this one, so there are more bare spots. The shoulders in particular are quite bare, but that seems to be by design when worn with the head set. I will modify this as well due to inadequate coverage IMO.
For me the face mesh is not workable, but can be trimmed back. The hat is not rigid at all, but more of a beanie. I will experiment with a baseball cap underneath and that may do the trick. Otherwise sun will shine right your face (through the mesh if you leave that on).
Overall I'd give it a solid B grade. It is something I will easily customize into an A grade and have fabric left over to make gun ghillies out of.
