80 Gr ELD-VT Information

I came here to see how everyone was likening the 80 eld-vt. I think mine might be splashing. I have shot 4 coyotes with them from 100-208 yards. 3 of them needed follow-up shots. One shot was in the back quarters so that is understandable. The rest were mid body and further forward. I am running them pretty hard with stabal 6.5, around 3475 in my 26" 1:8 243. I think I might try to slow them down and see what happens. I had my best accuracy with once fired brass. 2.8000" is my COL for my 243.

I’m at 3445 fps on a 24in barrel (6 creed). So far I’ve got 21 coyotes killed with this combo. Only 1 coyote survived the bullet and I thought it might have been a “splash” because I couldn’t find a hole in his shoulder. Other than that, I’ve had good luck with the bullet from inside 100 yards to 790 yards on confirmed kills. Gave one a haircut at 600 the other day and almost had another one at 1018 yards a few months back. It’s been an accurate bullet for me.

Two more from the other day. This picture is the exit hole on a broadside female at 386 yards. Impact was 2461 fps and she was DRT. The other coyote was shot while running straight away at 350 yards and died instantly too. I couldn’t find an entrance or exit on him but he was stone dead. No picture of that one because there was nothing to show for damage.

shooting 243 and tested 80gr Eldvt, 87gr Vmax on paper, very good and sub Moa @ 3400fps on bolt rig. Went with 87gr for price, both shot very good groups but @ 2x the price. The juice wasnt worth the squeeze to me, Im sure they would do damage on coyotes
What twist is your .243?

They do the job as far as penatration and putting the dog down but were not very accurate in my 6mm ar arc but very very accurate in my arc bolt gun. I think they need a good or higher fps to perform and a faster twist my boltgun is a 7 twist.

Bump for this thread. Going to be trying a ladder with satBALL match powder with the 80 ELD-VT. Wondering if anyone else has anything for me to try while doing so.

Anyone load this in 243 or 6 Creed? How does it perform on paper targets and predators?

Was thinking about picking some up and trying them in my 243 (24" barrel) and 6 Creedmoor (26") with 8T using 6.5 Staball and H4350.
H4350 works great in .243. I'm gonna try vv555 and win staball6.5 they're both very temp stable

My buddy is shooting them in his 26" 1 in 7.5 twist 6 Creed. They have proven to NOT be very fur friendly, if that matters to you. Groups are fantastic also. Around .5 moa

I shot a whitetail buck in the shoulder a few weeks back and it was not pretty. Killed the deer just fine but that bullet did major damage to that shoulder and made it into the cavity with no problem. It was too destructive if I’m being honest.
