Nice fox. How come no yotes yet. You usally have posted a couple of pic by now. Or are you saveing them for the contest? Just wondering if your haveing a tough time like the rest of us this year. Razor

I have had a pretty good year so far but the last few days I have called in a bunch of dogs in and didn't get shots or they were just out of my shotgun range(normally don't hunt with a shotgun and probably wont for awhile)but as of late I have noticed the majority of the dogs are holding up 100-200 yards out just letting a single half as$ kind howl out..I know they aren't smelling me so it has me a little confused myself. I'm just starting to think there are so many people out calling they are just extremely educated this year.

razersedge... Ever since I've held the .223 (post deer season), I've not seen a yote... just these reds

plinker... I just walked past the old cemetery to get to the field. Too scary to set up there

How's things going over on that side of the mountain?

Been calling them in over here, but just can't get them in to shoot. Everything has been after dark, nothing during the daytime.

A lot better this year than last.

Let's just say this is the No-bark-at-no-moon dog. Went out to a favorite spot last night with predictions of overcast and light winds. The new moon (1/15) was a battery eater for the spotlight. I hunt overlooking fields surrounded by brush, but I probably couldn't have even caught movement beyond 50 yards without light.

Got in about 10:30 PM and this little male came in about 11:20. Did a few more stands but never heard a single vocalization. Left at 2:30 PM. I skinned him out when I got home and it sure looks like he lost some serious fur on his elbows from the cold weather last week - both front elbows and one rear had inflamed/bloody and hairless patches. He also had a serious bruise on his [beeep] that looked to me like maybe he got it fighting. Other than that the pelt was prime.

Conditions look about the same for tonight, so I'm going to try to go back and get the red fox that showed himself 4 times last week without a shot opportunity. This warm weather is a pleasure to hunt in, that's for sure!

This year has been a strange year so far .I have had zero luck during midday hours and called only a few critters on the edge of light . There's very little sign in areas where there's normally a ton and there's alot where there usually isn't any . I've noticed way more fox sign and also the rabbit population is way up . The weather has been great for calling...ehh who knows.. I have a couple far out plans ..Things are about to change.

erict - congrats on a nice looking dog!!!

swampwalker - the fox sign has just started to show up a lot around here. Lots of coyote sign in this part of Otsego and Chenango Counties.
Going out again tonight, wish it would be alittle colder.

Made 3 sets saturday night. Had some coyotes making a ruckus in the distance but nothing showed up. Only interesting thing that happened is we saw an ermine. I had never heard of such a thing before and it was cool as [beeep].

Erict nice looking coyote.
At least someone is having luck.

Smoker, it's been a slow season. Haven't put in the stands that I did last year. Did manage to call in four predators this season BUT couldn't pull the trigger on any.
Myabe we can hunt before the end of the season. First got to get out with some other guys though.
Man if I was only retired..................

Good Hunting.

New Years Eve morning called one in, but it was snow just hard enough that with the light on my scope, made looking through my scope like driving in a snow storm with the high beams on. Missed that one.
Last Saturday night we went out and called 2 in on the first set but been having trouble with lights this year and the only light that was working was my white light and when that hit him he turned tail and ran back into the pines. Then on the 3rd set got busted by one, he stop just out site and started barking giving us He$$. Still had a lot of fun.

Yes we should try to go out hunting. But I can't say when. My wife has been in Albany Med a lot so been spending a lot of time on the road.

Shoot'm up!!

I haven't really hunted much during the day time. I work a regular 8-5 (what ever happened to the proverbial 9-5?!?!) so if I go out during the week it has to be after dark. Weekends are tough as I've been doing a bunch of work on my house lately...plus I don't have an e-caller so I feel like I'm at a disadvantage during the day not being able to get downwind of the caller in the thick stuff.

In short...no. But it's because I haven't tried.

C-smoker,
Sorry to hear about the Mrs. Hope everything is well.
Keep me in mind. Like I said,I'm trying to hunt with a couple of guys but this year has been tough scheduling wise. PM me when you're free.
Good Hunting.

not a coyote but I did shoot this one tonite...

200 yd shot at 10:30 PM. She was headed for some thick brush and I did not want her to wind me so I let her have it long distance style!
