New Drags

Went hunting last week and had to dig to find a drag. I keep giving them away and found I'm down to one and really like to keep one in each pack so I made a few.

I made a quicky drag last year with a 12" x 3/4" dowell, 3/16" cord with a knot on both ends.

One for the handle, & the other for a small S hook that I closed up one side for the cord, the other side just big enough to go over the cord.

Easy peasy to loop around a leg or 2 and go.

Mine fits the thigh pocket of my Kings snow camo fleece pants. I can loop behind top canine teeth for double drag. Or opposite front/back leg, over hand knot the rope at the handle and carry on hip(rope over shoulder) or handle in hand(fox usually). Main thing is not having to squeeze handle in below zero temps and rope not freezing.

I like to loop around the upper jaw/snout, half hitch around lower jaw and in thick cover half hitch around front legs pulling the up to the jaw. It streamlines them so they don't hang up. I like my drags long enough to wrap around and my waist for long drags or using trekking or ski pole or just to keep from having to grip the drag handle for a long time, arthritic hands.

I usually hunt pretty close to the jeep and carry a couple of 18" pieces of 3/16" or 1/4" paracord with hard loops in both ends in my pocket. Feeding the cord through a loop forms a slip knot which can be looped over a leg or snout. Each cord will handle one or two coyotes if necessary and then hang from an idler pulley on the chair.
