Irish 80,

Thanks, and you are on target. Just hard around this time of year, heck, its hard any time of year I would imagine. Life will go on and I have a very strong family bond and support. I was going to edit that out of my post this morning, but so have it my cell phone crashed and could not, and at my work place we cannot access hunting forums:(

Happy hunting!

This is an inspirational post. I too am in the on again off again game for about 7 yrs now. After reading all this I am going to get serious and just quit! I have two little boys that don't need to copy daddy. My good hunting buddy just called tonight and said he hasn't had a dip for three weeks. Good to know we can try to support one another.

Everyone should give it a shot for the New Year!!!!

Thanks to all the members on this forum for creating such a supportive network for all of our lives endeavors.

Thanks, I think im drinking twice as much coffee... ha ha.

I told my wife last night. I picked a bad time to try and quit. With all the stuff in the news. about shootings, gun rights. ect!!!

I've been chewing Mammoth Cave twist for over 20 years. Been on the wagon since 9:eek:o yesterday. I still have a twist in my shirt pocket along with chewing gum. I can DO this!

WOOHOO!!! Hang in there guys. Just quit one dip at a time.when you get the urge, just tell yourself "I'm gonna skip this one" repeat until you have quit.

I chewed for over 35 years. On Jan. 6th it will be three years since I quit cold turkey. Life is good. For you guys that plan on quitting on whatever date, you probably won't do it. You have to make up your mind to quit RIGHT NOW or you will keep putting it off. I know I did. Good luck and hang tough.

That's day one Chupa!!

Guys,
I've always been really hesitant about posting personal information on any of the forums I frequent, but I'm gonna make an exception this time just because there's a bunch of folks on here that I think of as my friends.
I'm 50-something and I smoked, chewed, and dipped for a long time.
A few years ago an oral surgeon told me if I could manage to go without my dipping tobacco for 2 weeks he would know if he needed to do a biopsy to check for cancer in my lower lip and gums.
Long story short, I quit that day....cold turkey.
Good news 2 weeks later. No biopsy, and no cancer.
I miss it every day, but I'll never start back.
I'm perfectly content with a good cigar every month or two.

If you need a good reason, do it for your family.

Rodbender, Ditto!!!! Most of the men in my family tree have passed due to lung cancer from smoking. Thankfully I never got into smoking, dipping or drinking but have my own demons to fight. I have read quitting nicotine is one of the hardest habits to fight but you all will be in my prayers! God bless your New Year!

I'm struggling to quit. Has been twenty years now. Keep telling myself its ok 'cuz I don't do it very much anymore. Maybe 2-3 dips a day at most. I really want to quit..but do I?
Keep finding excuses to prolong it for a while longer. Man tobacco has a grip. The last couple weeks I've been watching football on tv and witnessed players throw in a dip on the sidelines. Very prominent players too. Im 39 yrs old and find myself being swayed kind of like an ad...falling for it. Thinking, "Hey he's in super shape and dips...shouldn't hurt me then."
I agree with others..think you REALLY have to want to do it. Which I think I do..but just have no will power at this point and need to man up.

Best of luck to all those quitting bad habits! I am on day three with no buying smokes and it's no fun. Along with the smokes goes the drink. If I drink I'm gonna go buy a pack. Trying to kill two birds with one stone here. I've got a baby boy that will be here in February and he may need his dad around to teach him a thing or two. It's kinda funny how hard it is to quit smoking when you compare it to what I have quit. This month is eleven years no meth for me and it was the most addicting thing I've kicked. Cigs should be easy but it just ain't so.
