I used to weigh them all when I felt I had to prove something to myself and others. Over time and 2 different scales, it wasn’t uncommon to kill 40 lb coyotes. Quite common honestly. 45 lbs happened a handful of times and they were brutes. And then my high point… was like 48 or 49? It’s the ounces that are messing up my memory thinking it was 48.9 or 49.8? Doesn’t matter really. It was a hog of a coyote!I saw one weighed at 51 pounds once. How accurate was the scale? I don't know. It was a heckuva big coyote though.
I've weighed two that I have killed at over 40 pounds. Biggest one weighed 44 pounds. I don't know how accurate my scale was either. And I've killed a couple that didn't get weighed that I'm sure were in that range.

I did just notice the scale I used is exactly the same one Spurchaser has.

Kino, do you think any coyote has ever weighed 50 lbs? Like, as in, Can it actually happen, and has been accurately documented?
I agree with you that most are just bad, boasting estimates, but you make it sound like it’s just impossible. I haven’t hit 50 personally, but came close in the high 40’s. Some contests in the NE, the heaviest coyote category is won with coyotes over 50 lbs.
Just curious what you really think.
Okay. Just checking. Lol… I can agree with that. I do envy your trail of boot tracks too!Absolutely i do think there has been some over 50, I'm just saying that 99.9999% are bullshit claims. Guys do all sorts of shenanigans to make them look bigger as well, same way bass fisherman learned from Roland Martin and Bill Dance to take pictures.
I look at a coyote the same way as a 200" whitetail, unless it's on a certified scale with witnesses and inspected for internal contents like lead weights, I'll remain skeptical. Why??? Because of 2 things mostly, lots of people are full of poopoo and with about 40 years behind me trapping and calling and thousands of dead coyotes at this point, I'm yet to see one and I've been fortunate enough to put boot tracks in a lot of states.
I will say, if I was looking to kill a 50lber I would probably go to New York or Ontario, maybe northern Pennsylvania. I do believe the biggest coyotes in north America come from that area, same way if you want to kill a 200" whitetail in the wild you'd go to Saskatchewan or Alberta.
Hey, you're just going to have to take my word. I am not trying for any record here. The simple truth is, if I thought it was a big deal I would have called Guiness. Scale hangs in the shed where I skin deer earlier on in the year and I got interested. That's all. He was just so damn heavy and I checked him. I doubt Boone and Crockett will be interested.I hear about these monsters all the time but I'm yet to see a picture of a 50lber plus on a scale in a legitimate setting, with it being so rare surely you have a picture of it on the scales??
