Baiting

Pard,
That's a bit north of me. I was hoping you were closer. Looking for someone in the Wilmington area to partner with.
Have you shot anything in your area?

Great time for baitsicles!! This cold weather is going to cause a lot of fur to get peeled!!! Got buckets with dog food freezing nowW.

I got these at my bait pile two nights ago. Hopefully this weekend it'll all come together.

Dog driller, I also have a calf out right now (a neighbor brought it to me for bait), have had it out for several days, but no hits at all, no video and no tracks in the snow. It's currently 10 degrees out right now. I keep hoping that coyote will make it's rounds again and find the calf. Once it does, I think he will keep returning and maybe I'll get a chance to put a red crosshair on him.

NYyotekiller, good luck with those two coyotes. Hopefully you will get some action soon.

Have you shot anything in your area? Nothing yet but I've got them started on my bait pile. May try them tonight. I'm in a club in Beaufort that is full of coyotes but I can't get up there like I'd like. I've been there 4 times and seen 5 coyotes. The tracks are everywhere.

I believe I've got them on the bait and it may be time to do some damage. It rained last night and there were fresh tracks there today. From the tracks it looks like 2-3 coyotes... I'm baiting with some freezer burnt deer meat (I hate losing good deer meat) and cheap dog food.

cold and breezey here -- no hits on my calf or my bait pile. there are tracks around but we have a huge amount of snow rabbits this year-- everywhere along with some turkeys that we do not normally have here in winter. i should be out calling with a rabbit call but have other commitments -- oh well - only january still have more winter to go plus it is supposed to warmer this week.
no hits on my road kill rabbit zip tied to a tree at another bait site -- going to change it up and move it to site more in the open and dangle it so the breeze moves it-- maybe that will gat some action. the rabbit is not in bad shape -- we'll see what happens

Clicked off the living room tv and was headed to bed, looked at the clock said 12:03 a.m. glanced out the window and couldn't believe my eyes! Ol Wiley standing in the field about 30 yards from the house. Grabbed the 22-250 out of the corner and lit him up with the vrl 1 varmint light, and let the Savage sing. Number 1 of the night season! Little sob never even flinched when the window opened or from the light. Must have had his sights set on my bait that's another 75 yards out with my motion sensor set up. Poor bugger never even got a taste of his last meal!

keep up the good work. I have shot 25 from my home the last two years but have only had 1 trip the alarm this year so far. Hunting over bait from home can be very productive and can keep the coyote numbers in check. I do not see hardly any coyote tracks in this area on the snow anymore.

Today is the day that I move my hunting blind into the deer yarding area to hunt some coyotes over bait piles. I have had 3 baits out for two weeks and not hunted them at all. They are getting slammed so the hunting should be good. It was allot more work then I thought getting the hunting shack ready to live in for extended stays in this fridged temps but I am there. I also decided to stud the track in my Bear Cat so I could move the shack in any conditions as well as bare ice. I had the shack insulated with closed cell foam insulation and all I can say is WOW. My little buddie heater set on low takes 5 min to get to 70 deg at -5 outside. I installed a tinted 10X18" sliding shooting window with a shooting table with the rifle setting on sand bags. I am putting out my battery powered wireless alarm on the bait and just wait them out. I am having trouble with my photo bucket account for some reason but I am taking some photos I will post pics later.

Mainah 22-250, very good work. Hope you get many more.

Scalloper, sounds like you're ready to launch. Best wishes on a successful expedition. Looking forward to the pictures.

Mainah, You are a cold-hearted man, not letting that poor little forest creature have one last meal. LOL. Nice job.

Scalloper, looking forward to seeing photos of your blinds and bait sites, as well as some good stories. I hope your Photobucket account works soon.

I went and checked my bait and finally have a coyote coming to the bait. hope to get out tonight and get him.
in this first pic you can see the eyes of to coons wating for the coyote to leave.

Scalloper- good luck up at that yard, I don't make it up to Washington county that much these days, grew up in Lubec, got some family over in cutler too. I usually make a week long trip up to topsfield during deer season, but other than that don't get to do much hunting back home. Willing to bet there's gotta be someone we both know up that way though.

Thats cool. My wife is from Lubec. I live 15min from Cutler. I bet we do know some of the same people.

Been out of town for a few days, came home to find over 250 videos on the game camera. Seems like the coyotes are starting to get comfortable around the site. I literally had action every hour from 10 pm thru 6 am on Thursday night. Couldn't believe they picked the time I was away. And of course, nothing for the next few days...

Last night the alarm sounded at 2:30, I raced to the window and could make out 3 yotes having a good old time with my trimmings just inside the edge of the woods. With the PVS-14 on my Nikon scope set at 6x, I had no trouble seeing them thru the trees under a full moon, with no IR light (snow covered ground reaaally helped out). They just never stood still long enough to give a decent shot. Finally, after a half hour of hide and seek, I turned off the monitor and went back to bed. Got up at 5 to get ready for work, took a quick look out the window with the monocular, and saw a blur headed into the woods. This little male couldn't resist coming back for another snack:

The clearing behind in the middle of the photo is my bait site, about 95 yds out at the foot of the big pines. First coyote of the year, first blood with the new Night vision, and also got to break in another gun that was still a virgin. All in all, a good way to start the day.
