Baiting

Got a little burn action on the bait pile last night.

Smoke cleared, and soon thereafter the checkout crew came out to investigate.

Mangy male but pretty large for these parts. 60gr Vmax and Super Hogster for the win...

Nice shooting Burnsome. Like it when they drop like that.

It's been five weeks since I've seen a coyote in the pasture. Woke up at 1am to the chime and saw this female crossing the field. She stopped behind a tree when I barked at her so I sucked the crosshairs up close to wood and touched her off.

146 yards, .243 with 55 grain Sierra Blitzking...no exit. Video is really short as she was on the way out.

Burn, that one not only looks a little rough like DoubleUp mentioned, he looks a little old too.

Wildflights, good job on putting the bullet through in a tight space. Those 55 BK’s work pretty darn good.

Another nasty one out of the mix Burn, good work.
Excellent shooting wildflights, the .243 really hammers them.

Pulled my trail cam cards yesterday. Full of coyotes. Even watched them hunting rabbits with one in his mouth. All, 50 yds from my bait. I haven't had a beeper in near a month.

Wind ruined my sit tonight. North/Northwest by forecast 5-10, temps dropping well below zero. Pop-up blind 140 yards N.E. of the road kill deer. I put the ecaller on an old auger straight west of me 30 yards. 5 coyote have been staying along a tree line 1/4 mile s.w. of the bait. Their on a different property owners land, they won't let me in(son is hunting) or I would kill them during the day. As they sleep in same beds often, with N.W. winds and sunshine. I played prairie dog(none within 300 miles) distress, low volume. An owl was first, then 4 of the 5 after I heard them assemble call about 250 yards west of me. I muted the call when I saw them with the Leupold thermal. They looped S.E. around the pasture corner fence, started to the bait. I waited, watching thru the thermal. The deer hasn't been opened up yet and they only appeared to be checking it out. I got the rifle/Wraith ready, before I could shoot a couple of them looked my way as the other two trotted away. I then noticed my breath rising up and out the blind window. Checked my NOAA weather wind map on satellite, it showed a cross wind. But when I left the blind, I noticed the wind was swirling around the grain bins behind my blind. And seemed to be N.E to SSW.

That's a bummer Spot. Been there a time or two, both deer and coyotes. Wind is tough in my part of the country with deep timber draws.Always swirling in the valleys.

I finally made contact with another female at the bait site last night. She had hit it twice on the previous two nights and I saw her coming to the pile around 11. I missed her clean on the first shot as she turned just as I was squeezing the trigger, but due to the suppressor she didn't know where the shot came from and ran just a short way and stopped.

I killed her at 173 yds. on the second shot. The cameras showed a big male that showed up around 2 and stayed for about 30 minutes. He was probably her mate, but he ate some from the bait pile with her lying there in the field 20 yds. away. He was dark colored. I'm going calling in a while, but maybe I'll get chance at the male if he sticks around a little while. Here is the female and the video.

Good shootin again DU. What is the bright glow on the bottom edge of the screen following your swing of the rifle? I get that a bit in the hogster on the left side, and I think it is my battery pack...reflection for lack of better description.
