Are the .17cals really All That?

i have shot about 800coyotes with the 25gr.bullet and never had a splash.they have for the most part been the moly coated match bullets.the only bullet that ever splashed on me was a sierra 52gr.HPBT match bullet and the was 25 years ago.i have had good results with bergers in all calibers that i shoot.with 25gr hornadys i had a lot of runners, they didn't run real far but i like them to drop instantly

Tim
what did you decide to go with ?

Rich, I'm thinking 17-204

I think I may know where you can get a reamer if you are interested in a zero freebore no turn neck reamer

If you use them for predator hunting, ie coyotes, bobcats and fox, and have good fur-friendly results, I would like to hear your experiences.

Well I haven't had any problems with them far as messing up fur , no big holes . The packs I 200 berger 17 cal all say 25 gr varmit match grade

Tim. right now, Hornady brass. strated out with Win, but may have got a couple bad batches cuz the primer pockets were weak (loose) from the get-go.

I'll just confirm what others have said. The 17's are awesome! The combination of the 30g Kindler Golds and Varget in the 17 Rem is instant death for Yotes. In the last 4 months I took 14 with this combination at ranges from 30 yds to 250 yds. Exact same result on all, pinhole intrance with no exit, DRT. Groups at 100 yds out of my Cooper M21 are in the .3 range. Reaction when hit reminds me of somebody hit with a Taser! They just freeze up and fall over. No kicking or spinning.

That just reassures me that I have made a good choice on my rifle & rounding me up some 30gr Kindler Golds!

Love hearing you fellas talking up the .17Rem!!!

Can you still buy the 25 and 30 gr. 17 kindlers? How does the 25 gr. hornady hp compare to the kindlers on coyotes, and whats the preformance diffrence between the 25 and 30 kindler as far as exits on coyotes goes?

Yes, the Kindlers are available. I believe Todd makes a 27gr Gold bullet also. As far as how they compare to the 25gr Hornady hp, I'm sure there are folks on here that have experience with both. I'd imagine the 30gr Kindler might be a little advantageous when pushing the .17 Rem out to it's maximum distances. Only way to know for sure, try both & report back.

I know whenever I go out I always think of a reason to take at least 1 .17 cal out. Everything I seem to shoot with them is DRT. Low recoil, light report and makes your reloading supplies last longer. Plus its always cool to see your bullet hit critters.

Now I want one. My .22-250's were good(just got the newest one in Feb of this year, and Furhunter was right, it's way to heavy.) Decided I wanted a .223 bolt action and bought that 2 weeks ago and love it, but I now have rifle envy and the only thing that's going to cure it is a nice 17. Does it ever end?

Nope crazyfox270, you just end up finding something else you can't live without after each gets paid for and setup. Next you'll upgrade all your scopes, then handguns, shotguns, muzzleloaders, rimfires, and hunting trucks, and e-calls and lights, then you come back around to the rifles again. The best you can hope for is an understanding spouse with a good job who doesn't upgrade spouses as often as you upgrade toys

I had a nice savage .17 hmr and sold it for a .223 bolt action. Best decision I ever made. I liked my .17 but I LOVE my .223. I had several bad experiences with my .17 hmr where I shot groundhogs, foxes, rabbits (or whatever) and found blood but never recovered the animal. I no longer have that problem with my .223!

.17 is a great gun to shoot and alot of fun...but IMO they aren't all that!

17 centerfires chewi. I have a 17 hmr. I want a 17 remington, fb, ah, or any and all of the others, but we aren't talking about rimfires.

Upgrade to all scopes done, just bought a new foxpro and lights for my rifles, bought a new bps about a month ago. I followed your upgrade list almost to the letter without knowing it.
