Are the .17cals really All That?

Posted pics up of the new 17Rem in a different thread, but this thread is really where I should have posted them.

....... so to anyone who might care to see it, here it is again.

....... and again.

I promise, I'll try not posting it anymore.

Sounds like great Quality Control to me! You wouldn't want to spend your hard earned dollars on something that is just mediocre, would you?

Had that happen once, I'm glad they care.

Was it a Super Match ?

Better yet, it has never seen a single round down the pipe ... and probably won't for some time. Gardening season has arrived & the rifle is currently on the back burner. Once I get my garden in, then you can bet your azz I'll be heading to the basement to load me up some test loads! Can't wait!

A great incentive to hurry up & get the garden in.

It is great quality control and I don't have a problem with that
but it would be nice if they would have called and said there was a problem and had to start over, this isn't the first barrel I've ordered from Pacnor but it is the second time this happened in the 8 barrels I have ordered from them, great quality control yes it is great communication not so much at least not since Penny retired

Yep both times a supermatch it took 3 barrels to get the .20 cal barrel for my 20-250 but it does shoot

Thanks RePete. I figured the same thing you did - about only having 200 bullets. But, it was either get it or walk away from it.

You fellas make me jealous of your PacNor barrels! I have never had the chance to shoot or own an aftermarket barrel ... at least not yet. If the oppurtunity ever does present itself, it will be PacNor all the way for me. Read & heard way to many good things about them to not give them my business.

Tim, keep us up to date on that build of yours! I enjoy watching things come together. Good Luck.

Yea,,, I'd have done the same thing.
Maybe get some of the newer ones and see if they'll shoot to the same POI. If so use the old ones for hunting and the new ones for paper.
Won't solve the problem but it'll at least postpone the inevitable.

Oh No!
Good for her.
Bad for Pac-Nor and those of us who she was so kind to and patient with over the years.

Will do RB.

RePete, I have two boxes of the varmint match, one 20 gr. and the other 25 gr., so maybe I can develop a load with these, and only use the target for hunting. Just hoping both will shoot about the same groups. If I can get a load put together relatively fast, then the box should last me quite a while if only used to drop coyotes, bobcats, fox etc.

What is the problem you all are having with the 25 gr Bergers varmit I haven't had any problems with them just wondering ,
By the way nice rifle , the 17 is a hoot to shoot

Michael, I'm not sure everyone is having a problem with the Berger varmint, per se. The issue, from what I hear, is that it is not as fur friendly as the target bullets are. That's why so many like the target bullets. Plus, some say the varmint bullets many times will splash.

If you use them for predator hunting, ie coyotes, bobcats and fox, and have good fur-friendly results, I would like to hear your experiences.
