Annual Groundhog tally for 2012

Nice going Wahoowad. Man, that .243 is really working well for you. Great job with the coyote.

Now, get those other three we saw that morning.

Days like yesterday where I expected to cover a lot of territory are not days where I normally like to carry this heavy rifle. But it is shooting so good that it is hard to leave at home. I'm glad I had it when this 'yote showed up! Next time, if I'm focusing on 'yotes and the distance is likely to be 150 yards or less, I might take my shorter and more nimble 22 Hornet. That should be adequate, right? That place we saw those other 'yotes you refer to is kinda hard to get a good observation spot as it is so hilly. But right next door is a larger farm I can get on.

Eric

Happy birthday Corey! Thanks for posting up. Meant to say it earlier.

Thanks wahoowad, I spent pretty big in the last year, so I'm just taking it easy for a while. I did grill myself a rack of ribs and got some cold beer this weekend

Wahoo, I personally think the .22 Hornet would be fine, though I would use a bullet suitable for coyotes. We used 35 gr. V-Max in the Hornet in Namibia for jackal, and I felt that one was a bit light. We had several runners.

Good luck with the coyotes.

Got up this morn to no wind for a change ! The sun was warming up fast ,so I decided to was time to check on the chucks. Planned on going to the family farm to visit my grandparents and check out a chuck my dad called me on. Armed with only my rifle I saw a chuck out sunning on a ditch bank on the way. So after a brief chat, made a quick trip home for the pistol. There was no way to get a rifle shot,so I slid down the ditch bank and got ready for some face to face action. Wasn't but a few minutes and this guy poked his head out to check me out. One CCI MiniMag in the chest and the rest is history !

#1 for the season !

Good looking iron there Tim. Way to kick off the season with a wheelgun. Looks like my backpack just got a little heavier

. Now I'll be packing a pistol to try and get a handgun hog. Question is which one to carry

? Double action is the only 22LR pistol I haven't owned so far, I like the looks of that one of yours.

Way to go Tim!

My first groundhog was with a Browning 22 pistol. I still have it. I was hiking and plinking along some railroad tracks and saw one scurry into a hole up ahead. I sat and waited for quite a long time. I kept thinking that I was wasting all that time if I ended up getting a shot and missing. But in my head I kept hearing the voice of my infantry platoon sergeant saying "trust your gear...trust your gear." Sure enough I dropped it with a steady shot when it appeared. Trust your gear!

Congrads on your shot , I starting Groundhog hunting with a pistol this year . Kinda gives a new twist to Groundhog hunting those 150 -200 yard shots aren't give me's anymore.

Popped the first of the season with my new .204 today! Didn't take a picture because it wasn't anything spectacular, head on shot caught her right under the neck and never exited. Sounded like a bag of mush on the inside though! So far I'm pretty impressed with the gun.
