Advice on purchasing .22-250 to suppress

I am not nearly as advanced in knowledge as many of you on here. I am a HS teacher that hunts as a hobby.

I currently am shooting a TC Venture with Realtree snow camo (1/12 twist) with my thermal setup. I really DO NOT want to thread that barrel for a suppressor. Something sentimental about that gun that I don't want to touch. I only use factory ammo and I have enough Hornady 55gr V-Max to last for years. The Venture shoots the VMax very well.

So here is what we are looking at. I would like to stay with the 55 gr Vmax and get a new .22-250 to hunt with next coyote season. Coyote season is the only time I will shoot this weapon. There are so may different twist rates out there on guns I've looked at. I've looked at the Browning X-Bolt Speed that is suppressor ready with a 1/9 with 18" barrel that kind of has my interest. I've also looked at the Tikka, Savage, Remington.....etc. (I do understand that not all guns will like the 55 gr vmax and faster twist is generally better with heavier bullets.)

I am not a re-loader. I have never switched out a trigger on any weapon. I am a teacher with a hobby..... that being said, is there anyone that can give me any advice about a suppressor ready .22-250 that would accurately fire a 55 grain Hornady v-max within 200 yards? Is there a twist rate I should avoid? I guess the gun would not necessarily need to be suppressor ready, because I could have it threaded. I also understand that just because you may recommend something doesn't mean it will automatically be an accurate setup. I am just trying to get some educated advice from people that know way more than I do.

This thread is almost embarrassing for me to start. So many of you load your own ammo, and have tested so many different kinds of ammo, and then you have me......the guy that just buys guns and ammo and shoots them.

I thank you in advance for your advice in this matter.

I believe a 1/12 twist is good for 55gr bullets. I have a Tikka T3 with a 1/14 that shoots 50 gr vmaxs very well. A 1/14 would probably work for 55gr bullets. The Ruger American Predator is suppressor ready and fairly affordable. You can probably find a twist rate chart if you do a google search.

I purchased a Bergara Premier LRP 2.0 22-250 last summer for $1,500 on the bpioutdoors.com website. It must have been a special or short-run because they weren't available for very long. It has a 9 twist, 24" stainless, threaded barrel cerakoted black. I've been shooting factory Hornady Express 55 grain V-Max and it has been extremely accurate. I load my own ammo for my other rifles but the factory ammo has been working so well with this one that I haven't loaded any yet. It came with a TriggerTech Special trigger but I did change it out for a TriggerTech Diamond 2-Stage. With the Pulsar XG50 LRF I can easily and consistently hit 350-400 yard shots while target shooting. I've shot a few coyotes between 250-300 yards but most of the time they are within 150-200 yards where I hunt and it's been great. The only other item I swapped out was instead of using the Magpul mags I went to the 22-250 MDT metal mags. The Magpul mags were fine but I like to have 10 rounds just in case I run into pigs and I found that the MDT mags run perfect with 10 rounds where the Magpul mags could have issues here and there. No issues with the 5 round Magpul mags though. The Bergara HMR 22-250 is very close to the same rifle in a different stock and non-stainless and would be worth consideration B-14 HMR - Bergara USA.

I’ve really enjoyed my tikka 22-250 so far. Have close to 500 rounds and counting on it this year. It’s the 8 twist and it shot the 55 grain vmax okay (around 1 inch or 1.2 inch 10 round groups). It shot the 50 grain vmax even better so I stuck with that for factory ammo to break it in. I shoot the 53 grain vmax now but hand load it. My gun wasn’t very picky though.

You’ll have to get it threaded so that kinda sucks but not a huge deal. I didn’t change out the trigger but I did replace the trigger spring, which is extremely easy. It’s also not necessary to change that out either.

The only other stuff I’ve done to it was shaving out the barrel channel (also not needed but my preference), and spray painted the stock.

Overall, it was a relatively inexpensive gun after getting it threaded and it seems to shoot everything well. I’ve been very happy with it.

The CVA Cascade is very similar to the T/C Venture I currently shoot, too. 1/12, 22 inch barrel (and comes threaded).

I am intrigued by the suggestions here now too. I am no longer thinking about the Browning.......

The Bergara and Tikka sound real good too. Luckily I have some time to get this figured out because it will take a while for me to get a suppressor. I will be using the T/C Venture all this season.

Keep the suggestions coming. I appreciate how helpful you all are.

Without knowing your budget, there's a wide discrepancy in rifle prices.

Beings I'm a Remington fan, & if I had a fatter wallet, I'd be tempted to give the new Remington Alpha 1 a try.

I thought it was supposed to be an 8" twist, but I could only find it listed as a 14", but that wouldn't be a hindrance with what you're wanting to shoot.

At least you wouldn't have to "upgrade" anything on it, as it has a great stock, trigger, & bottom metal from the factory, plus it's threaded.

I'm not necessarily restricted with budget. My coaching money and summer job money is my play $$ so the wife doesn't care what I do with that. If I'm running a thermal on it and will be putting a suppressor on it, I am willing to get it right the first time. I failed to mention that I could spend a fair amount but don't want to go crazy. I'll be much better equipped to spend more in about 8 years when I retire. I need something now that can get me to then.

I bought a bergara b14 ridge in 22-250, they come with a threaded #5 barrel, slick bolt and amazing trigger! Mine was very accurate. I reamed it out to a 22-250AI now though just cuz i already have the dies,
If money isn't to concerning a christensen arms fft 20" would be my pick

If you are waiting for your suppressor, I would find a used Savage/Rem and have it barreled with a premium barrel. 1-12 twist 20-22". Premium custom barrels typically will shoot any appropriate weight bullet better than a mass produced firearm. I run a 21 3/4" Lilja barrel suppressed, it will shoot 1/4 moa groups with factory Nosler 55 BT (my personal all around favorite coyote bullet) or my hand loads to the same poi. A good smith will/can chamber to fit your factory ammo correctly, which for me is with minimal free bore.

That FFT is a good looking weapon.

Have a friend that has 2 CVA Cascade rifles, 350 L and 6.5 PRC. She shoots factory ammo in both and they shoot very well.
Feel a lot like a Rem 700 to me,which I'm a fan of. I believe they use Bergara barrels on them.

Tikka will get you in the game at a fair price along with several other goodies, weight, maintenance, trigger… all good,, 55 grain v max, I shoot them , great accuracy and my 1-8 twist, 20 inch barrel get the job done. You do not have to be a gunsmith to have a Tikka shoot accurate.

I shoot the 55gr v-max, 22-250 Ruger American, I hand load it shoots great I am not a big fan of the plastic clip with those guns there junk. Ruger has a new American Gen II just came out, looks like a big upgrade, has a 20" barrel and is threaded.

my only 22-250 experience is with my own rifle that started out as a Rem 700 ADL. The barrel is a 1-14 and did well with the 40gr vmax but doesnt love the 55gr vmax. currently running a 50gr speer tnt out of it and it shoots it OK. looking to rebarrel soon to a 1-10 twist

Tikka 22-250 T3x Stainless. I’m very happy with this setup, shoots Hornady 55gr Vmax very well. If I remember the gun was around 750.00 ( maybe less) shipped a couple years ago. I had the barrel threaded and put a Banish 223 on it.
