12 ga. Coyote loads

2 oz loads kick like a mule, they make it difficult to get off a second or third shot quickly and a 2 oz load will cost $1.50 to $2.00 more per shell to reload than what 1-1/2 oz loads of TSS cost to reload.

With 5 lbs of TSS shot you can load forty 2 oz loads or fifty three 1-1/2 oz loads. I-1/2 oz loads of TSS #3 or #4 shot are devastating on coyotes. If you are shooting coyotes at 70 yards and less you will get more clean kills with 124 TSS #4 shot pellets in a 1-1/2 load than you will get shooting 1-1/2 oz loads of TSS #2 shot with 81 pellets in a 2 oz load.

The TSS 1-1/2 oz #4 shot loads have 53% more pellets than 2 oz loads of TSS #2 shot, or 43 more pellets per shell

With my TSS #3 and TSS #4 shot loads I use a Mod choke, because TSS shot patterns very tight so I can have a wider pattern and have a very high pellet count in a 20" to 30" circle.

I have some 2-3/4" 1 oz loads of TSS #4 shot that I reloaded for small ladies or kids to shoot. They have about 82 pellets per shell and don't have much recoil. I would bet that the 1 oz loads of TSS #4 shot would give you more clean kills at 55 yards and less than Hevi-Shot Dead Coyote T shot loads with only 50 pellets per shell. or 41 pellet lead #4 buck 3" loads
Well hopefully I won’t regret it but bpi had #2 TSS in stock of which I already had an order placed so shipping was already covered. Was hoping to get some #3’s so I’ll just go with it for now. Any thoughts on 1 1/4 oz on these or should I bump it up a little?

I really don't shoot enough shotgun to warrant reloading for, especially since I bought a case of Remington 3" 4b that I haven't exec cracked into yet.
But all this talk about tss is making me get the itch. Lord help me.

Exactly what happened to me. Got tired of loading and shooting to not really be satisfied. Also I thought about it and how many shotgun shells does a guy need a year for coyote hunting. Especially me cuz I really enjoy rifle hunting. ( thermal especially) This daytime timber calling is just something that will be fun occasionally that I’m really looking forward to doing more.
And may just use my first load with TSS and follow it up with lead to finish one off. Or just keep slinging TSS at them. LOL

I'd do the exact opposite. Lead for the first shot and TSS for the follow ups if needs. You'll want that extra distance and penitration of the TSS for those going mach speed away from you.

True! I’m guessing I’ll just throw in all 3 TSS and not worry about the extra cost.

I just bypass the lead all together. To many times a coyote comes scooting in at 60+ yards and the lead doesn’t anchor him. Whereas TSS will fold them at that range. Why waste your first shot. Yes it’s expensive but then again here in Utah we have a $50 bounty on Coyotes. So every Coyote I shoot I can buy a box of TSS ammo. It’s a win win….😉

I have settled on Winchester Varmint X BB for my 12 gauge after a lot of pattering. Carlson dead coyote choke, 10 inch circle, 31yds. 46 40 yds. 30
51yds. 18pellets

Don't lose sight of the fact that those BB's in that Winchester load are lead shot. At hard angles, those lead BB's don't have what it takes to reliably penetrate deep into vital organs or break bones at 50+ yards.

I am not a shotgunner yet on these fur dogs…so, does copper plated bb’ s make a difference… Thanks…

They supposedly penetrate a bit better because the surface is slicker due to the plating. I assume this helps get through the fur better, because any benefit is gone the instant they hit tissue and deform.
