Floppy ears

Killed a coyote that had floppy ears. Was curious what would cause that? I’ve seen ones with frostbite ears etc. It didnt look like that. Ears were normal just flopped over.

This is my buddy Jack.

I only see him twice a year for a couple days at a time. But he's my bud. I think it's because we share a love of ribeye steaks and he can smell them on my breath. And that I share my ribeyes with him every time I see him. But whatever the reason, he likes me. And he doesn't like anybody. But usually he lets himself into my tent and wakes me up licking my face every morning on the trips we are on. I really do think it's the ribeye on my breath.

His owner, Mike, has explained to me several times that it was a medical condition that permanently folded his ears over. I can't remember any of the details about that. But it wasn't an injury or how he was born. Maybe coyote can get same?

Dang! Jack looks to be a bigfoot/coyote cross! Does he have any blue coloration anywhere. Do his eyes glow red if you take his picture 30 or so times?

I've learned so much here in the last week or so that I am now on a mission to learn everything I have ignored in my entire life! I had no idea what I was missing out on!

That's one good looking dog, Dave.

Jack really is one handsome son of a gun. He attracts attention. Everyone wants to pet him. But he's very aloof. Not mean, at all. But avoids people, on GP. Everyone is always trying to get his attention and he always ignores everyone. People are constantly trying to get him to come close and he just trots off out of reach. His owner gets a real kick out of how Jack relates to me. A dozen rigs camped, spread out. I always pitch my camp as far from the group as I can. Dark of night, I give a couple lip squeaks and Jack leaves his camp a hundred yards away and runs up to my camp come see what I'm lip squeaking about . It's the ribeyes :ROFLMAO: .

Dogs have a special sense as to a person's intent. They know if you like them or are afraid of them and if they sense you do not like them or are afraid of them they react accordingly.
We had a beautiful chow. He was completely out of character to popular reputation of chows. He was a big Teddy bear, but if he sensed someone was afraid of him, while not aggressive, he let them know he wasn't fond of them either.

For the most part I agree. I'm a dog lover and get along with almost all of them. I have a client that has a couple boxers. Beautiful dogs but they hate me no mater how hard I try to show them I'm no threat.

Yea that makes sense. Yea it had a deformity on the rear leg at the joint. Like possible broken bone that healed. So maybe it was hit by a car or something at some point and that was the cause for the ears

I too am a dog lover, Lance, and have a somewhat similar experience. The only dogs that have ever bitten me were small chihuahua's owned by two different co-workers' wives named Betty. 🤷‍♂️
