Zro Delta?

Well here I am eating crow again. Went to a local show and bought this rifle. I know I've said I'm not an AR guy but here we are. I had the thought it might be a good time to at least have an AR in the house and this one was cheaper than most of the ones I had been looking at at $499. I did some quick reviews and most were all good. I didn't really see anything negative and this one was NIB so I don't have to worry about how many rounds fired or the condition of the barrel. If it don't shoot to my liking barrels for AR's are pretty cheap. So, give me the good and bad on this rifle.

Hard to beat a $500.00 AR from a company that bought out the old War Sport factory. Zro Delta has great folks working for them, and they put out a pretty decent product. They're similar in quality standards of BCM in my opinion. I wouldn't call them "precision" rifles, but they'll do you well. Enjoy it!

I had my eye on a used Aero but nothing to let me know it was all Aero other than the lower. It was almost $600and tax. Another store had a Diamondback for $520ish and tax. The Zro was the cheapest and its hard to tell the Zro and Diamondback apart. Of course its a mil spec trigger so somewhere down the line it will need attention. At least it is NIB and hasn't been shot to He--.

I was hoping to shoot the rifle today but the wind is blowing pretty hard so doubt I will go out. The Zro has a 1-8 twist barrel and a Wylde chamber. That was two things I did like about the rifle. I put a 1-8 LPVO Covenant scope on it last night. I think that's plenty of power for what my use is intended for. (Killing stuff) I have a bunch of unknown maker 55 grain soft point bullets I bought at a garage sale. I'm hoping they shoot decent and being a SP they should work good enough for predators and vermin.

I'm sure for your intended use that rifle will serve you well. I've never heard of them but from the looks of their web site and the info on there they are GTG.

I'm not a stranger to AR's they've just never been my thing. I like bolt action rifles. One AR really impressed me years ago, it was a RRA. I've had a few that someone else built, some lessor versions, a Colt (never again) and this one. Reviews were good. Accuracy and function was good at least in the videos and it comes with a Lifetime warranty. The RRA is the only one that came with a decent trigger so I know somewhere down the line I'll be buying a trigger. Any AR you buy today is a crap shoot on accuracy but quality barrels for AR's are going to break the bank if I have to buy one. At least I have all the other parts. I think I would be hard pressed to built a rifle for $499. And if this one shoots good enough to kill coyotes and ring steel at the club then I'm golden.

Changed out the rear stock today with a Magpul PR. I like it better than the collapsible one that was on it. It will ride a bag better at the range for load work. Less than $40 at BPS with my military discount. (Just FYI, they are giving vets a 10% discount an most everything in the store.) Next will be a trigger.

Shot the rifle today. Accuracy Meh! Could be better but I was shooting some ammo that hasn't shot good in other 223's or my 22-250. I bought a bunch of bullets at a garage sale. Probably 2-300 unmarked brand of 55 grain BTSP. But on a flip side, I can hit my 4" steely 15 out of 15 times at 100yds. Good enough to kill a coyote. Now the for trigger.....IT SUCKS!!!!!!!!! It was so bad that I quit trying to squeeze and just jerked it. Trying to squeeze it for a dead hold was near impossible. CREEP CREEP CREEP and a little more creep then bang. I think this had a lot to do with group size but even if it didn't that trigger will be replaced and soon.

Just fixed the trigger issue. Ordered a trigger from Primary Arms. They have the CMC competition trigger on sale for $94, regular price is $174,. Quite a savings.

I'm sure some of you are tired of my posts on this rifle but maybe a few will be interested. When I got the rifle home on Sunday, I always clean a new rifle. And it cleaned up pretty quickly. I took it to the club today and did my usual break in. I put 30 rounds through it then brought it home :). I run a couple of wet patches of Wipe Out accelerator followed up with Wipe Out cleaner and let it set. Went back 30 minutes later and hit it several strokes with a brush and then ran a patch through the barrel. Very little powder fouling and 0 copper. I dry patched the barrel with a few clean patches then ran a couple of wet patches of Butchs through it. Came in and ordered a new trigger then went back to cleaning. No copper at all and clean patches again. No fouling and a nice clean barrel. Maybe these guys are on to something here. At least the barrel cleans up nicely.

Received my CMC trigger today and got it installed. Wow, what a difference. My trigger pull gauge says 2 pounds. Got the riser under the scope and the new butt stock. I'm done for now. Except maybe a paint job. Not big on black guns.

Not big on black guns.

LOL... I have about sixty-five AR15's in various configurations and cartridges, yes... that's SIXTY FIVE (65) and ten AR10's.

Been building and shooting the platform for twenty-five plus years. I'm addicted to say the least.

A lot of my builds were with free parts or parts obtained at a heck of a price... it's called BLACK RIFLE DISEASE for a reason lol.

ETA- Probably a dozen were free via wheeling and dealing as well as selling off "gifted" things gun related in connection with my job.

OK, I've had the rifle out three times now. First time the way it came and the last two with the new stock and trigger. I've shot mainly 55 grain bullets. Most were my mystery bullets, a flat base soft point and about 20, 55 grain V-max. Tac and CFE223 powders. Most of you that know me know I'm little anal about accuracy and this rifle isn't producing what I call hunting accuracy. Most of my groups are in the 2" at 100yds average. That isn't working for me. I probably have 100 rounds through it so I figure its "broken in". I bought it more for parts figuring I would need a barrel sooner or later. I plan to try a few lighter bullets and a few heavier as well. I haven't given up on the factory tube as of yet but If I do end up replacing the barrel what is just a good barrel to look at? I don't need bench rest accuracy but like to have a barrel that will shoot a consistent 1" at 100yds and not cost a fortune. I'd like to keep it very similar to what I have which is 16". I don't know beans about AR profiles, only looks. Pretty dumb about AR profiles.

Well...........call me stupid. (Won't be the first time) Last time out with the ZRO accuracy was horrible. I was about to think I had a POS rifle or a POS scope. Every time I adjusted the scope it would go twice as far as I was adjusting...or what I thought. Then, what few brain cells I have left kicked in and realized my adjustments were 1/2" and not 1/4". Well DUH!!! Then, I switch to a 69 grain SMK. Wow! What a difference that made. I finally got sub 1" groups at 100yds. Plenty good for what I wanted it for. I'm not a big fan of heavy for caliber bullets but if that's what it takes then I'll shoot them.
