Your Pic of the Day

Dave, I have a question, make that two. Is that rock vertical or horizontal? What do you think caused the discoloration of the rock?

Not the best picture in the world, but noticed this "bobbuck" must have donated his tail to a coyote; probably as a fawn.

Clarence, that one is vertical. The discoloration is what we call "desert varnish". It's mainly iron and manganese oxidization. It takes thousands of years to form. Some petroglyphs in the area are so old the desert varnish has reformed in them making them hard to distinguish.

Thanks, Dave. Interesting stuff.
I've observed quite a few Red Fox litters grow up. They all left their den sites around 11-12 weeks old. Yet I've read of an "expert" claim red fox kits do not leave their den site until around 6-7 months old. I find that claim very odd. Most kits I seen in 1 litter was 14. That female was old & she often had 11 kits.
