When did the 25-06 become unpopular?

OK, I'll admit I only read the original post and not all the reply's but......the 25's are hamstrung by bullet choices. The 6's and 6.5's above and below them have the bc advantage. There is no way to argue that fact. Speed lessens drop at distance and I get that, but wind drift is a whole other ballgame. High bc's slip the wind better and you can't argue with physics. Drop really isn't an issue where as drift is voodoo for most guys and any advantage you can gain there equals more real world hits with less room for error. I don't want anyone to take my post as a 25 bashing as my 25-06AI flat hammered critters and I have some love for it, but my 6's and 6.5's running higher bc bullets anchor game too and slip the wind better than the 25 can.

R#25 & 26 with fed 215's will boost the velocities a 100 fps with the 115's, really shines with a 26" barrel. Also helps to neck down Lapua 30/06 brass and neck turn.

Not usually a fan of AA powders. A few years ago, I got some
ammo from private loaders who travel the local gun show
circuit which turned out surprisingly dead accurate:

75gr V-max
48.5gr AA2700
Avg 3400fps

I don't recall the COAL, but my Sav Mod 12 does great with
them. The 2700 is non-existent around here, but finally found
some at a gun show. Will be reloading with it this winter.

I'm amazed that ammo was accurate. One of the secrets to the .25-06 is unless you're near max the performance suffers. I shoot the 90 gr Sierra BK at 3626 fps out of a 24" barrel, that's over 200 fps faster then the 75 gr.
