What is a Flicker?

I have this on my PreyMaster I just got and I don't know for sure what it is and if it will work in my area or not. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gifKansas

We've got them all over Kansas, so yes it will work fine. Once you get to know them, you'll hear them all the time. We've got both the red shafted and yellow shafted models, both types of woodpeckers, as can be told by the color of the undersides of the wings.

I have used it several times and have now found that i have more success using the flicker than a rabbit sound. I think a lot of the coyotes around my area are used to the rabbit distress. The flicker distress must just make them start to drool!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Aaaahhhhh... you found my secret! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif That sound is devastating on bobcats here in TN. When I got my Prey Master a few years ago for Christmas. I went coyote hunting a couple days later. Out of eight stands I called three (only killed one) bobcats! I like that call more and more... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Glad you guys are acknowledging the effectiveness of woodpecker calls. My favorite for calling all furbearers is our Johnny Stewart CT116A Squealing Bird. That recording is of a Ladderback Woodpecker. It has been one of our best since the 60's. We have two Flickers in our line, the Yellowhammer and Red Shafted.

The Red shafted flicker tape once called in 5 dogs at one time for me, since then it has been my favorite and most effective call, when nothing else works it flicker time. I'll have to try CT116A too.
