what grain are you shooting for yotes

300 yards is a pretty long poke for me in the field, so I guess the wind doesn't play as big a role for me as a long distance shooter has to deal with. I don't use stix or a bipod when calling coyotes, so hopefully I can call them in to the 25-75 yard range, 'cause that's where I like 'em.

How do you like the Varmint Grenades? I have thought about trying them but wasn't sure if they'd be "too" explosive?

They are explosive so I wouldn't use them if you're going to keep the hide. I use them in a 204, 222, and the 243. The 243 is the worst when it comes to messes. I think in the 204 & 222 if you keep the velocity down a bit they'd be ok, probably no exit wound.

I use a 40gr hornady loaded down to 3000 fps in 223 because I sometimes call in fox. Most my shots are close range & I have had no problem with runners. The load will hold its own to 300 yrds no problem.

I have used the 58's in 243/6mm from Hornady a lot. I have several boxes of them stored away if you want a deal on some.
I have friends that have used 75's and both have dropped them dead right there.

This will get lost in the "noise", but the Sierra 80gr SBT Blitz bullet in .243, is a money maker, FWIW.

In .224, the 60gr V-max is where it's at. IMO.

Another fan of the 87 Gr. V-Max or the Nosler 80 Gr Ballistic Tips Varmint in .243 Cal., Both shoot well. and will just about tear the head off a yote if hit in the neck. Big holes in body.

I don't save the hides.

I've been researching this lately, getting ready to buy a 243.

It seems there is no majority vote. Some like the 55/58 bullets, others the mid 70's, and still others the heavier 87's.

They all seem to work great??? I guess that's a good thing.

The lighter bullets shoot really flat out to 200 yards for general hunting use. The heavier bullets like the 87 are not quite as flat shooting but they have a very high BC and drift 50% less in the wind and are great for mid-range varminting.

I think I will go with the 87 Vmax zero'd at 150 yards.
