Vibratory tumbler and stainless pins

I was just thinking why wouldn't a vibe tumbler work with stainless pins. Has anyone ever tried this or does anybody know why it would or wouldn't work.

It might work but I see a few issues. Stainless media weighs a lot more than corn or walnut media. The extra weight may bog down the vibratory motor and reduce the cleaning motion or burn up the motor. Rotary tumblers have a lot more movement inside the drum compared to a vibratory tumbler which may not have enough umph for the pins to do their job. In a vibratory tumbler the media generally quickly fills up the cases and they stay full until you shake them at the end which is why the insides don't get clean at all. In a rotary tumbler the media flows in and out of the cases due to the violent tumbling motion and the fluid properties of the media mixed with soapy water.

I would think The btrass will float on top. It is less dense than the pins and will migrate to the top. That is if my logic is logical. Also most of the vibratory ones can't be run with liquids.

It won't work. The pins are too heavy and will stay at the bottom.

If you'd really like to try, before you invest too much money, you could use a smaller rotary for a cheaper price, add the 'refresh kit' of pins, and you're in there for less than $100. Just an idea.

That is what I have been thinking. I figured that the pins would be too heavy. What I did not think about was the liquid.
I just thought I would see if anybody tried.

You still have to provide your own media of course, but once that is purchased it never has to be again.

I saw these but figured that after your media and liquid you would not have much of any room for brass. Have you used this tumbler yourself and if so how much brass will it do.

I once thought of using a FINE grain sand blasting sand in the vibrator type tumbler, but when I gave it more thought I decided not to try it because of the chance of getting a grain of the sand in my dies and scratching the heck out of them and my brass.

Me thinks if the SS media would work OK in a vibrator tumbler we would already know about it, cause some one would have tried it by now.

You could easily build your own 5 gallon bucket tumbler on the cheap.
All sorts of info on the web for making them.
Heck there are even guys who use cement mixers for tumbling very large amounts of brass.

No, I use a Thumler's Tumbler. I have the "B" model which holds about 200 rounds of .223 brass plus soapy water and the stainless media. But I would buy that Harbor Freight model if I wanted to do several smaller runs instead of one or two larger ones.

I'm using the 6lb harbor freight tumbler, but I've only run 50 223 cases in each drum. I may have to stuff them full to see if I could run a batch of 300.
