Two Blacks and a 3rd on the way home

First time I’ve posted in a while. I only hunted once in August. My buddy Ken and I got out Sunday night and hunted 5 stands. Nothing on three of them but had two packs talking to us on one stand but they were no shows.

One of the properties we hunt is 1.7 miles deep from the hwy to the backside. It’s huge pastures with a few woodlots and surrounded by woods. We usually call two or three spots on that farm.

On the backside we spotted 3 pups playing, jumping on each other and just having a good time. They weren’t interested in any sounds we threw at them and finally went over the hill out of sight.

With the field going for another 350 yards over the hill we decided to pursue them.

There was a cross fence in the back field. Ken went left, I went right. The 3 had been joined by a fourth one and Ken was around 200 yards from them…..I was around 350.

Ken made two good shots and got two black coyotes !

After leaving my house and heading home Ken stopped and hunted another field and shot another one.

I've always wanted to have the opportunity to see a black coyote and hopefully I had a rifle in my hands at same time let along killing 2 in the same stand... bet that was a surprise to see when you walked up to them, never know when looking with thermal

Best the odds there. I’ve only seen 3 myself, one while hunting one standing in a field and a road kill. Seen pictures around of many, but few and far between in the scheme of everything.

Would make a nice mount or tan.

That is awesome. Two black coyotes at the same time is crazy. We don't see or get too many here. In all the years I've hunted and trapped coyotes I've only ever been able to get one and unfortunately had mange pretty bad. Great job and congratulations.👍

That's great work Keith. We've killed a black pair several years ago also, but the chances of doing that again are astronomical
against it. I've shot a half dozen black ones over the years, but it has been a while since we've killed one here. They are always special and if you can get one with prime fur that would be extra extra special.

That was sure a sweet hunt. I’ve killed several black phased coyotes but never a full black one. I did see on in February mid day. I tried real hard to trap it. Was with a regular looking yote. Never told anyone as everybody be trying to hunt that ranch. Have never seen it again but gonna try real hard to catch or shoot it now that’s its cooling off. Very nice work on y’all’s

That's a really pretty one. Did you have him mounted?
No it was warm the night I shot it. I got my wife to go back with me the next morning for a daytime picture and called the taxidermist to see what it would cost……he said with it laying out all night the hair wouldn’t hold and would pull out. It was going to be $900 dollars anyway.

It weighed 38 lb and wasn’t fat either…..just a big long body.
