Turkey Loads for Coyotes?????

Bob, another thing EMI would do is change a component within the load without the consumer's notice. It was annoying to experiment with chokes and shoot that expensive ammo to find the best combination and then EMI switches out the wad or something and the patterns are then blown and you're right back to zero. They also had a bad mix of tungsten shot that was loaded into the Dead Coyote shells that fragmented badly and failed to penetrate heavy muscle or bone. Guys were reporting broken pellets with grey dust a few shallow inches under the coyote's hide. When called on it EMI wouldn't recall or replace the faulty shells.

Small shot will kill a coyote at close range. I’ve killed a few while pheasant hunting. Often times several shots are necessary.
Number four buck is a far better choice and will kill much further.

I can't find any number4 buckshot in my area...(largest legal shot) in Pa allowed.I was thinking about useing my turkey setup...Mossberg 535 Hastings .640 choke and 4,5, or 6 shot...have any of you guys tried it?My moss has killed big gobblers...out over 50 yards, but what about a coyote at 40 yards?
I never hunted turkey. But I have used shotguns & various loads on pheasant, Red Fox & coyotes. Shotguns were always 12ga 3"mag w/factory full chokes. For pheasant, we used either plated BB or #2 lead. For Red Fox, I used either plated BB or "buffered" 4Buckshot. For coyotes I used buffered 4Buck & also buffered 3Buck. 3Buck is a freight train way out there. Most guys talk about "patterns". IMO patterns at varying yardages ARE important. BUT just important is penetration testing. I used cut plywood sheets(varied thicknesses). Roughly the size of my targeted prey. To visualize kinetic energy/penetration at varying yardages.

One spring gobbler season, I watched A friend of mine shoot one @ 10yds in the head with a 10ga turkey load…it just spun around in circles snarling, he shot again and dropped it, but it took a few minutes for it to expire. That’s a big payload of shot in a magnum 10ga she’ll. It was not effective.

I generally don't prioritize coyotes while im turkey hunting but I've dropped the 3 that I shot at.
All 3 with 12g 3 1/2 #5s Federal turkey loads.
30 yards straight on head. Dropped
27 yards broadside. Spun and died about 50 yards
30 yards broadside. He immediately went over into a 100' steep ravine - so I really didn't see what it did but was dead at the bottom.

The last coyote I shot with a turkey load was head on with those Hevi 13 #6 at close to 40 yards. The coyote was ragged with mange, but he was coming to my turkey yelping. At the shot, the coyote spun a 3/4 circle and hit the ground. That Benelli/Kick's combo puts 180+ of those nasty little pellets within 10" at 40 yards. So that coyote caught a swarm in the face. When I walked to the mangy critter, he was still breathing. Had to shoot him again to finish the deal.

Any hunt automatically becomes a coyote hunt, as soon as they appear. :sneaky: I never give a coyote a free pass! ☠️🐾

I was bow hunting turkey from a ground blind, when one ran in from behind me and attempted to grab a decoy. As fast as I could grab my bow and get to full draw, he bounced outta there and dropped the decoy before I could release an arrow. To this day I'm a sore loser about it and will only hunt turkeys with a shotgun, just so I don't let one get away.
