Tripods

I sit on a stool and don't need a tall tripod

It is a lot easier to scan all around you while standing than it is sitting. I am specifically talking about hunting at night. Plus standing makes it easier to see in tall vegetation.

That is a fact but the one time I tried it, I hurt from my feet to my neck. My sets last a minimum of 30-45 min. and I don't know what level ground looks like so my feet/legs are never 'on the same plane :giggle: , my seat swivels and has 3 telescoping legs so I can make it level though normally I cannot see more than 180-270 degrees anyhow and that is no problem swiveling.

To me, I prefer a shorter folded length for carrying in my Eberlestock pack, so I go with 3 section legs.

At one point, I had four tripods:

Now I've consolidated them down to just these two:

I mainly hunt a night anymore so all standing. When I was hunting in the day, I sat on the ground or sat on a 5 gal bucket using a trigger stick bipod or no sticks when using a 12 gauge. I use my 3 section when my stands are 4 miles or further from the truck. However, I do have a tripod sling for the Fat Boy made by Armageddon Gear that's similar to a rifle two-point sling.

I cannot even find a Desmond tripod online. Only the head.
I could not find it either just Youtube videos. I think I bought it from B&H Photo on a clearance sale back then.....but my memory isn't so great anymore. This is it with the Kopfjager reaper mount

$600-$1200 for a tripod is hard on the budget.
When you have $7,000 if not more in your firearm, you want the best. I also agree, it's hard on a budget. I run a FatBoy with their leveling head and won't look back. I've tried several different tripods and this is the best so far.

I run a Bigfoot Tripod. Taller than you will ever need comes with a leveling head and only weighs 6.4 pounds with the head. Main leg is 42mm and drops 4mm per leg section.

I use the two section Fatboy and prefer the levitate head. The 15 degrees of motion is plenty and shot coyotes as close as 15 yards and steel targets at 600 yards. I also like the fact that I can grab the quick release tension stem (smooth/fluid operation) and release (or lock) the head to have free range of motion for running shots and quick adjustment. You can use arca and picatinny style mounts too. The 42.5 MM legs are strong, it's a solid setup and use it for shooting steel with my 338 LM

Nice chassis, Envy Pro?

Thanks......That's the original XLR Element chassis branded for Bergara 6 CM. However, I ordered a new (lightweight) XLR Element 2.0 Magnesium chases for my 22 CM with X-Caliber CB fiber barrel and Solus action build. The chassis (Burnt Bronze) with folding CB butt stock and CB grip will weigh 26 oz. I ordered it during XLR's Black Friday sale and the estimated delivery is 20-30 weeks.

i use the field optics pro 39. it makes some spring noises when spreading the legs out (sometimes). i've been thinking about switching this year to either the feisol that limbhanger10 uses or the one Chrisld has...i think thats a 2 vets.

i want something with thicker legs and no more than 3 sections. that way i can use it standing and also sitting for groundhogs.

Used a Desmond for years but bought a Fatboy in January of this year. Only regret is not buying it sooner. I would love to try the Levitate but my Rrs bh55 seems to be working well. With hung up educated coyotes being the norm around here I dont have much patience for a weak link.

I run 2vets no name 3 section, as well as their inverted 2 leg model. For general use and PRS shooting, I prefer the inverted set up. I also use a RRS anvil bead most of the time, unless I'm just tossing a game changer bag on top.

Got to use a Sunwayfoto T2830CS shooting tripod out to 600 yds. Carbon fiber 3 section with ACRA/PIC QD lever clamps system. Rated for rifles that weigh 44lbs or less. weighs 2.9lbs with head for $249.00-$299.00 depending where you buy it

I never thought a tripod would make that much difference but it sure does! I have a warrior tripod 3 section and a warrior 2 section Commando each with the chief leveling system. Customer service is great and they are sturdy but still light.

Is Fatboy the state of the art with their inverted ball head and sturdy carbon fiber legs? Or is there something better?
2vets, fatboy, and warrior are the big three. There others. Head compatibility and min 40mm legs diameter are mainly what to look for. I run a 2vets. I have 2 section fanaue with integrated ball head and adapter which is actually pretty damn good for a 270$ tripod. 40mm legs. Id say fit and finish is not as good as the higher end brands but it is solid.

The key to me is the flat surface and how the warrior Chief or the RRA lock down underneath vs a ball head. I feel they are sturdier. It is night and day over my prior ball head unit. Shorter shots no big deal but as you get further out there is a big difference.
