Torn on Coyote Caliber.

Hard to beat the good old 223. Plenty of commercial ammo. I have ARs and bolt rifles in 223 and they’ve all worked well on coyotes. I agree with the above poster, have some length to the barrel, for velocity.

Im a bit torn on what do do for a AR build.
Gun will mainly be used for Coyote hunting and just general shooting.
My original thought was to do a 22 Arc. But with the lack of Ammo it makes it a bit tough.
Then I thought I would go with a 204, Ammo is not horrible hard to find. But isn't always easy.
Then I thought why wouldnt I just stick with the 223 that I already have...But just put a good barrel in. But I'm having a bit of a hard time choosing which Barrel to use.
I think for what I do and want the 223 would be the best choice just for ease of components, ammo etc.
But would like to hear some suggestions on a good barrel that docent cost an arm and a leg.
Can you all give me some suggestions?

Something that also intrigued me was the 17-5.56 that Kak Industries has.
Has anyone used that setup before?

do what i did. i use an AR. i bought a 20" super sniper barrel in 223 wylde from wilson combat and got a Rock river arms 2 stage trigger. i use factory, federal 53 grain v-max and can hold a 1/2 group at 200 yards from the bench when i do my part. that load drops them on the spot.

A few years back i was doing a build. 8 weeks into a 12 week lead time Criterion couldn't come through with the barrel I wanted so Dick Craddock said he would substitute a Shilen and eat the difference. I'm sure glad he did. I can't say enough good about Shilen.

My 223 16" Black Hole Weaponry barrel with HBN lubed bullets is shooting 53gr TSX at 3300fps, super accurate also. If you hand load, these poly twist barrels can shoot.

Like the other guys here stated ....
KISS principal is best ...
If you can't load and kill yotes with a 223 and a 20" barrel
you should just go fishing ....

Things are about to get real nasty in the world
Everything people take for granted is gonna be a challenge
stick with readily available ammo ...223 in a Wyle Chamber 20" Barrel

do NOT go shorter than 20" ....the speed is what allows the 223 to be lethal

That rifle you are building today may very well be the rifle you defend your
family and property with tomorrow ....make sure it's a caliber that has a
plethora of ammo for.....NOT these odd ball oddities these guys are suggesting !!!

223 kills and it does it well.....be proficient with your rifle
use what's common and available .

I Love this reply....
Yes sir ...he get's it !

Hope this helps ....price is super duper
I have Ballistic Advantage barrels (their best)
Criterion
Wilson Combat
FN
Black Hole Weaponry
Roscoe

and these barrels shoot as good and better than the listed
work a load for it or find a factory load that it likes

it won't be hard trust me ...they are that good !
The lil boys on the net that are vanity queens and tout the BIG expensive stuff
as the only thing that works, are only fooling themselves

They do not shoot ...nor hand load to know what the hell they speak of
Youtube is full of them ...just look for tactical in their name tags ...lol !!

it's disgusting

Funny this guy just posts a build with a 20" 223 wylde....
He has a pretty big following and blasts yotes down in Texas ..

I got a real laugh out of one of the comments ....a guy that found the magic Wylde 20" AR Stoner barrel

here it is ..

The most accurate 223 I ever had was built with a 24” AR stoner bull barrel, BCM BCG, AR Gold trigger. It would consistently shoot 0.3-0.5 MOA groups with factory Hornady 73gr ELDM, 75gr BTHP, or my handloads with those same bullets over 22.0gr of varget, CCI 41s in Hornady brass. That barrel was $110. Wish I never sold it. It wasn’t threaded and I started suppressing everything so I got rid of it.

I own 4 of these barrels ....I buy in bulk on everything when i find a gem for a steal....
I can shoot 1/4" moa with this barrel when i do my job in the bags..

Just one of the 20" Wylde guns I've built

A 20" is a bit much for a can so I wanted to use the raptor with the reflex
I spun up a 1/2 x 5/8 adaptor on the lathe .....

243 is a superb round no doubt !!
you have the old tried and true Sightmark wraith...
I have 2 , both models 5x and 3x ...
They were the best bang for the buck until Arken released the now DNT models...
Even though they are heavy as hell, the picture quality and easy menu is super
and the weight is due to bullet proof construction....

I have 2 of those 66 LRX ...with their Turbo bulbs ..
guess what ? I found a IR light (torch) that matches the performance and is 1/3 the weight
and cost ...

It's all about the Diode type ....VCSEL is the difference ..
Ill cut a video comparing the two tonite weather permitting ...
