Looks like the weather has decided for me that I am finished chasing coyotes until October. Time to focus elsewhere.

I made 2 sets last night and finished my season by missing one that had me pegged. It was at the same place I had the meltdown hunt a couple weeks back. I setup differently in the wide open. I know I was pushing the envelope with the low cloud cover, and the glow of the distant city lights reflecting back down on me. I thought I had enough rise behind me to keep from getting skylined. I set the caller out about 75 yards and upwind about 50. Cal’s “Lonesome Me” did it again! Immediate response from the woods and not too far off. My plan was if they came to the edge of the woodlot I’d kill them at 125. Nope… The pair showed up on a charge and ran in to about 50 before I could get them to stop. About the time I got lined up on one it had things figured out and pretty much flipped me off! I gave it the old college try but it was a clean miss. That pair can go raise up some future targets.

It’s been a crazy season. Or lack of one? I’ve got some cool memories. Some not so cool memories. I’ve got something to look forward to for about 6 months. Even in the off season these jokers are always on my mind, so I’ll still be kicking around on here.

For sure, Mike. Cal’s sounds have really produced. I would guess lots of my sounds would have honestly. Point is, they work.

I love me some turkey hunting. But I’ll throw out a decoy on some of these field birds I chase. As much as some think it’s cheating, it’s about the only way to break some of these field dwellers we have. Woods birds I’m all about calling and positioning.

It's been a great first season back for me, not a ton of action but enough to cure the itch! I'll still tote my rifle along for some turkey scouting, never know when you'll run into a yote! I've been known to make a few stands right after the turkey season ends in June, just to clear one or two more coyotes out. You'd be surprised how eager they are that time of year.

Yup, here in NY we're all done until fall. hunt0168 at least your last trip you got to see something. I went out, got set up, darkness came and so did the fog. Warmer air over the cold lake water and I couldn't see 6 feet. Early quit for me. Watched this guy just before the fog rolled in. How the heck can they see frogs and such in the dark?

I use a Foxptro caller and went with WAV format. Not familiar with Icotec
