What is your strategies for multiples?
Specifically in this situation, how would you choose order of engagement?

I’m still new, but when I first started I’d choose the farthest first. But after a miss on the first shot and screwing up the rest, I realized I wasn’t getting paid.
I now take the money shot and let everything else just play out. Seems to work better for me.

Knowing the actual terrain and cover matters, from your still shot, I would reasonably believe a second shot may not be possible. I always make a best first shot. I have put my thermal on a bolt gun for this winter, from an AR rifle last winter. As more often than not a second shot wasn't even possible.

Here's a clip where 3 came in. When my buddy and I are hunting together I'm usually on the right side so I'll take the one furthest to the right and he'll take the furthest left for the first shots on our countdown. Then we'll take follow-up shots if needed in a similar fashion working toward the middle or trying to synchronize shots again if a third one, for example, stops. In this clip I didn't even see the third one after the initial shots. I've heard of people trying to shoot females first so the male stays around a bit but I'm not sure I trust my own evaluation of male vs. female coyotes.

I’m basically a solo daytime caller. I’ve always taken the best / highest percentage shot first . I always figured a bird in the hand…the whole thing about taking the furthest first and working your way in is a greedy fantasy most times. It’s one of those things that seems logical but in reality it isn’t. I also got pretty good at running shots if I couldn’t stop the rest. I actually love running shots. Some guys clutch their pearls when you say you shoot runners…pretty funny.

With an AR, hunting alone, I would shoot the rear coyote firs, hoping the one in front of him would be confused by the sonic crack and bullet impact and pause long enough for a quick shot or run towards me. Probably not gonna get a shot at the left hand coyote.
My partner is deaf in his right ear, so he almost always sits to my right. We have an understanding to take the one on our side on count of three and dealer's choice after the first shot. He shot a bolt gun, neither of us used suppressors.

Look here are my thoughts. If I get one I am happy as all get out. If I shoot one and for some reason one of the other coyotes stops, well dang that is a spectacular day. I just don’t shoot at runners. If I get two my day is over anyway. I have to skin them, flesh them and freeze them. If I call in multiple coyotes at a spot and only get one I give that spot a little time to cool off and revisit it in a couple weeks. I guess I am what you would call a laid back hunter. I am a walker not a runner.

if you shoot at runners your chance of calling them back in that same night is done. if you kill one and the other runs off. you can try coyote distress sounds or whimpers to call them back...sometimes it works, sometimes not. it has gone both ways for us several times.

here is one that came back in after we killed one (laying there) when it walked over to sniff the dead one, i killed it. this was when i used Night vision

Has anyone tried playing a vocalization of some kind fairly loud right before you shoot (like push the button, get steady, and shoot)? Wondered if maybe it’d mask the gunshot just enough to increase your odds a bit on the follow up shot.

We've been doing this much more often this year if the situation allows....
A few weeks ago we were in the perfect situation for this. We knew there were at least 3 coyotes on the property.

We set up along a treeline that divided 2 fields. First coyote came in quick but cautious.
Played a howl and partner shot it. Waited a couple minutes and Ran a serenade and a pair came from same direction. - We thought it was a solo(tree blocked one from each of our views- ran howls and partner shot it- then we saw the male.
Partner moved into other field to see if the male would circle or hold up.
In the meantime № 3 came barreling in from same direction but 200 yards down(upwind) field.
Ran howls it stopped and I shot it...Ran a coyote distress.
Partner came back over to discuss what just happened (left his gun)...as we were bs, the male came out from some cover behind some house and trotted right past us...and I shot that one.
All in 15 minutes.

For the OP
When I'm solo and have trips or quads come in, I have some choice words I mumble.
I try to observe smaller vs bigger Or young vs mature- even thought most of the "pups" are getting to hard to tell around now but can still have that pup gait..and try to kill mature female or male first. They might be the ones scratching and urinating.
And then pick a good sound, pick a coyote and hope the "plan" works

Excellent! I’m definitely gonna start doing that now as well. Need to set a pre-set on my remote. You’re just using a howl?

Great idea. Never thought if it BUT dont think l could get record hit, remote changed(if playing) to a howl and volume up, and aim then PUNCH (after doing the fore mentioned stuff) the trigger all at the same time:ROFLMAO:
