Show me your calling rifle.

Right now it’s the same bullets I use for hogs and deer…Remington CoreLokts 165gr
I did recently purchase some 110gr Nosler Varmegeddons to try out. Still have to shoot and get scope sighted in for those.
Sweet. What’s the exit wounds like usually?

One of my pair of 22 Creedmoors. That R700 action was the first gun I bought with my own money. I've had it since 1968. It's about 2/3rds the way through barrel number 5. I trued it and chambered the Krieger Light Palma 8 twist barrel. McMillan HTG adjustable comb stock. Nightforce NX-8 2.5 x 20 and a SAS Sentinel can. It's shot some killer groups out to 700 yards, and has enough weight to be very stable on the sticks. A great performer for the sometimes very long shooting I have up on the Hi-Line near the Canadian border. Somebody has to keep those illegal alien coyotes out of the USA. Might as well be me. ☠️

Purposeful decision making.

I've got a half dozen or so, but I just took a picture of my 6cm that I'll be carrying out in an hour or so. It's a tuebor legion TI action, Oregon mountain gunsmithing 20" cf barrel. XLR magnesium folder with all of the cf options. Banish backcountry can, TT diamond, AGM adder 640. It works.

Did use the 110gr Varmegeddons on a hog tonight and was impressed. Small entry and no exit. Now just need a cat or coyote to see what they do.

My main calling rifle is the AR by Predator Technology Group. Magpul PRS and grip. Vortex cantilever mount with Nightforce SHV 3-10. Yankee Hill Machine Turbo 556 suppressor. Weighs about 12 pounds.

Not a great photo, best I could come up with.

I switched everything over to my 6.5 Creedmoor yesterday due to not being happy with the performance of the bullet I’m using with the 6arc. Back to the drawing board with that one for now.

Since the OP asked, I did weigh the 2 rifles yesterday while I was switching things over.
6arc is 10lbs with an Omega 300 can (no optics).
6.5 CM is12lbs with a Hybrid 46 can (no optics).

What bullet did you have trouble out of in the 6arc?

I have the Magpul PRS on one of mine great but heavy.
For sure. With the little bit longer barrel and suppressor on this one, the PRS balances it our pretty nicely though. More weight than I'd like to carry, but it handles and shoots so well that I put up with it. I have an older Specialized Dynamics AR that I stripped down to bare bones. It's much lighter and handier, but it's not suppressed, which a calling buddy tells me is completely "uncivilized."

I like to experiment with different platforms and cartridges. I don't have a go-to calling rifle. I kind of like to use a rifle I find useful for the terrain I'm hunting and my frame of mind that day. Sometimes I like the feel of old classics and will grab a drilling or combo gun 100 yr old cartridges(22 Savage HP, 6.5x58R Sauer) kill just as well a the latest and greatest. Sometimes I like light and a little boltaction carbine find it's self in the scabbard 222 Rem or 20P are dandy coyote rounds. Then more modern, odd to classify 70 yr the old rifles as modern but they are basically the same since the Rem 722 came out 1940s they've been tweaked and given new name but pretty much the same.

New cartridges come along, some stay some fade, there hasn't been any radical new cartridges since the 222 Rem, most are tweaks and remakes of old cartridges. It's hard to improve on the 22-250 change the twist and bullet and it will keep up with the latest and greatest.

For me it is hard to find fault with flat-base HPs and SPs they are usually very accurate and seldom fail.

So for me any platform that fits me comfortably and just about any cartridge that kills coyote quickly and doesn't damage fur too badly is my favorite coyote rifle.

Nothing fancy here just a killer setup:giggle:. Ruger American Compact .243, Thermion xg50, 8-1/3# with sling and 5 shells, my 3# Campmore swivel stool with adjustable legs, and Nightstalker +

Seems like I grab my RAR in 223 more than my custom AR these days. Its simple light and shoots under 1 inch all day long with no mods other than my can.
