Last night was a good night of seeing coyotes. As we are walking in, we are scanning as we go around the whined trail. We see 2 coyotes up laying on a hill side. Stop to get the gun on tri-pod and turn on scanner. But the 2 got up and over the hill they go. Keep moving to where we wanted to get too. Got to that spot and stared scanning, and there is a coyote sitting on a hill about 350 yds away looking at us. We wait to see what it going to do. It gets up and goes back into the woods. So I didn't start out with a howl, because we have seen 3 coyote so far. Start out with some distress sounds. With in a minute the coyote is back up there watching us. But wasn't coming any closer. Then it started looking toward its right. Then another one shows up, coming thru a valley. We stop this one at 200 yds and my buddy take a shots and missed. He was using my gun, because his isn't holding POI. My trigger is a lot lighter then his AR. He was cussing at it. Those 2 take off. Put on a pup distress sounds and see what happens. Minute later we have one running across a big pond north of us. The wind is coming form the SE about 6mph. It never got closer the 400 yds and got our scent and was gone. Scanning and we see one about 600 yds sitting to our NE, never came in. Change sound to breeding sound. My partner see on sight to our west heading south, and it disappears. Then he sees what we think, is the same one to his SW about 200 yds coming our way slowly. It turns and goes to the S behind a hill. We aim the rifle to the S and wait, her it comes out in the same spot as the one he missed earlier. I bark and stop the coyote at about 200yds. The rifle goes off and you hear the whoop sound and a bark from the coyote. It take off back the direction it came. we waited a while to see if anymore would show up. But nothing else showed up. We picked up thing and went over the hill to see what we can find. Found blood trail witch was easy to follow with flash light. Go over a hill and see it laying next to a cattail swamp. My partner sets the gun up and takes a shot and it done, nice big male. So on this piece land we saw 7 different coyote that night. 5 where with in 350yds, got 2 shots and got one coyote done, 2 over 350yds +. I think we should of had 3 down, but it didn't happen that way. Still was a great night on that piece of land. 2 more stands last night and heard howls, but nothing showed up that we saw.
