Savage Edge - Adjustable trigger? How's it shoot?

Folks, after last week's p-dog trip, I can see a .223 is in order. I shoot a Contender in .223, but this gets a little tiring and I'd like to get a rifle so I can alternate.

The Savage Edge is looking good to me and the price is certainly right. So my questions:

- Does it have an adjustable trigger? If so, how difficult is it to adjust? One screw or is there a lot of work to it?

- Let me know how it shoots. I'd love to hear some reports, Savage rifles have always been good to me, but I'd like to hear about your experience.

I know there is a trigger that is made for it, but I don't know how easily the stock trigger can be adjusted. As far as the pros and cons:

Pros
Savage accuracy
DBM
Light
Cheap
Top receiver very sturdy

Cons
DBM sometimes doesn't seat properly
Stock a little cheap feeling
Trigger on the heavy side

Thanks for the reply 777 and I'd love to see how it's shooting for you.

I agree, the almost universal problem with the lower cost rifles is the triggers tend to be set heavy. The big question is how easy is can it be adjusted by the owner and how easy is that to do?

I looked on the Savage website and they say nothing about it either way.

Anyone else have any idea?

Mine is in 22-250 and I've only shot 2 boxes through it.50 grn Win. Silver Ballistic Tips and the same in 55 grn.I got 3/4 and 3/8 groups with the factory trigger.I have a Rifle Basics trigger coming for it.
 
The only reason I won't buy the rifle basix trigger is that I could've gotten the 110 with the Accutrigger for what I wouldve spent on the Edge and the riflebasix trigger. Trying to keep the cost to a minimum. Although I can live with a heavy trigger. Every rifle I have shot has had a heavy trigger and I feel the Edge has the most crisp pull out of those.

Got it. I agree. I'm the kind of guy that looks for a bargain and then regrets not spending the money on the model with all the bells and whistles

. I bought a Stevens for $319 and just put in the RB SAV-2 for $146. Why didn't I just wait and buy a Savage with the AccuTrigger?? Cuz I'm impatient and wanted a rifle THEN!!! LOL!!!

I haven't seen the Edge trigger in person. Someone posted they cut a few coils off the trigger and that seemed to help a little.

I clipped two coils and polished the faces with a dremel felt wheel and the trigger is more than acceptable. Shot four groups tonight, largest measuring .8" and the smallest measuring .5". That's 26.5gr H4895, Winchester brass, CCI 400 primer, and 50gr Hornady V-Max.
 
personally, i wouldnt buy a savage without the accutrigger. i know that the "edge" is a budget priced savage but tell me the truth......are not most of you guys gonna runout and get a trigger job/bedding redone to accurize it anyway? you might as well get the real deal......my humble opinion.

Some people do while others dont. I own several rifles and had several others that I have sold off and have never had a trigger or bedding job done to any of them. For hunting purposes I dont think that a trigger job is necessary unless the stock trigger is just absolutely horrible and groups all over the place. Luckily for me, that has never been the case. All my guns shoot well enough to kill what im aiming at without spending the extra hundred or so dollars. Just my opinion.
 
I'm just trying to figure out where everybody buys the normal Savages from so cheap. When I was shopping for guns I couldn't find anything remotely close for the $269 asking price of the Edge. Even if you added the $84 aftermarket trigger.

Where are you located in Georgia? I have a friend that works at a pawn shop who ordered mine from Lipseys and got the XP for $316. I still feel like the trigger on the edge isn't that bad. I bought the gun to hunt with. I feel that is all the gun was designed for and it should shoot decent groups with factory loads. I wouldn't expect much more for the price. If I shoot something and it dies, good enough for me

I just picked up a Savage model 10 in .22-250 on clearance from a Big 5 Sporting Goods here in town. I actually cruise their stores regularly to see what they're phasing out.

Additionally now with the Edge in broad availability, Sportsmans Warehouse is pushing the Steven's out the door at $279 regularly and $249 on sale. Add the SAV-2 RB trigger and you have a really decent truck gun for $400. Either one in my opinion is a great bang around rifle. Sportsmans will also do phone orders and ship to your local FFL. Usually shipping is about $21 for 2nd day FEDEX.

This is in opposition to buying a $600-$700 Savage or Remmy 700 top of the line and having to add a scope to the top of that.

All are good rifles. I have one of each, and each serves the purpose I bought it for. I would rather end up at $500 for a decent rifle than start at $500+.

Just my opinion, others will vary.

I actually own a camo version Edge in 22-250. Jerry's Sports Shop in Ambrose sells the standard black version for $269 when they can get them in. I will buy another Edge in black in .223 caliber for night hunting. I require the DBM.
 
I have the camo 22-250 and cut a coil off the spring and polished the sears with 320 wet sand paper on a flat surface it pulls at 3 pounds and only took 30 min. The edge is a very good gun it shoots great and doesnt break the bank, im going to buy another in 308 soon.
 
What I was getting at is the Edge can be bought for $269 with exceptional accuracy right out of the box. Even if you decide you have to add the RB trigger for $85 it still adds up to $354. When I was gun shopping I found very few guns in that price point, and none with a dbm. Sure the Edge has to cut corners here and there to make that price point, but all of the guns I looked at up to $600 had made sacrifices in one area or the other. The best trigger I found came with the cheapest looking, feeling stock imo. The Edge will probably not be passed down for generations but as far as hunting goes it will shoot just as accurate as just about anything out there.....for less.
