Primos Alpha Dogg

Well, I bought one of these, and must say am pleasantly suprised. It holds maximum 1,000 calls, has three speakers, 2x25 watt output, and a 200 yard remote. The two side speaker can be swivelled to face either directly to each side, to the front, or anywhere in between, and the speaker covers fold down to become legs for the unit to stand on, and the main speaker is always pointing forward.
It took a lot of getting, as I ordered it from the USA (I'm in Northern Ireland, part of the United Kingdom), and eBay messed up and didnt order it, but pay pal took four payments for it, so want happy.
By the time I had it sorted, the seller had sold out, and I had to order from another company.
But its an excellent unit, and I would recommend it to anyone, its a very compact but powerful unit

I also have a U-Caller Extreme, very quiet on its own, so needs an amp,I field speaker of at least 8-10 watts for any real sound to come out. The sound quality is good, but is restricted to any of four calls you buy on PRE programmed slot in cards, that then have to be swapped in and out, and generally only one or two on any card are of use, nplus they are very expensive.

I have one as well and am pleasantly surprised on the sound and ease of use. What is the primary species you hunt in Ireland?

Mostly fox, crow, pigeon, grey squirrel, and wildfowl (duck and goose)
Shooting is highly regulated by the authorities here, and you need a firearms licence (you have to be squeaky clean, and prove good reason for having any calibre, and also have a minimum amount of land which has to be cleared by the police for the calibre requested)
To get anything above a. 22 centrefire calibre, you need to take a deer hunting course and pass an exam :-(

This is what Obama intends for the USA.

Handguns were banned on the UK mainland about 16-20 years ago (although not here I'm glad to say).
Since then general crime has increased an average of 60-80% year in year out, and VIOLENT crime, has increased 130% average year in year out.

We hope the NRA and others can prevent this from happening here..I dont think I could survive without being able to hunt.

What I would personally like to see, is more of the Primos (or even other makes) decoys that would work on the remote, as at the moment only the cat tail one seems to be of use according to my research :-(

I also have one and am really pleased with it. I have called in 4 coyotes since I got it about a month ago. That doubles the number of coyotes I have called in over the last 3 years. I had awful results before but the expert hunts are really helping me learn I think. I never really did know how to use vocals well. I believe I was calling too often before. I have never had one coyote come in to a distress sound around my parts but the sounds are clear.

Mojo decoy next to the caller has worked on fox for me. just has to be on the whole time. Unless the ground is frozen then you will need to make a base for it to stand on.

I've been using the alpha dog for about a year and a half. I have had trouble with the remote, seems the original one lost its range over time, it worked well out to 100+ yards when new and eventually down to 20 yards. I called promos and they sent me a new one no questions asked and it seems to have fixed the problem.
Otherwise i really like the call, espesialy the coyote vocals. And it does work with the blackjack decoy, the only odd thing is you have to hit the decoy button 2-3 times to get it to respond each time you start it or stop it. The only other gripe i have is the remote screen only dims with the time out so it's hard to keep it conceald for night hunting, I've been tapeing an old lense from a pair of sunglasses over the screen when i go out at night to help darken it a bit.

Oh, by the way, primos mistakenly sent me a remote for a power dog the first time, and didn't want it back, so if anybody needs one id be glad to send it to them, I have no use for it.

Yeah it does help a little, I just get nervous about it reflecting off my rifle or binos, I'd prefer it go dark after a few seconds like my FoxPro does.

Raymond Blaker,

After all that trouble, glad to hear you like it. I bought an Alpha Dogg a couple of months ago and use it for coyotes. I like that you can operate the remote easily with gloves on. Since I have not yet learned to call with mouth calls I am able to use the expert call series and see how the coyotes respond. So far I have had 3 different set ups bring coyotes in.

Hey if you have a Facebook account you may wish to search for the Lamping Foxes user group. There are a lot of UK fox hunters that post to that group.

What are the best sounds that you will use for calling in the foxes?

Regards - Michael

I've only had two fox come in while using the alpha dog, we don't have too many of em here right now, I believe due to the healthy coyote population. The first one that came in was to the baby cottontail distress and I believe the second one I was playing the sparrow distress. I have called some in in the past with my FoxPro, usually the higher pitch rabbit or bird sounds seem to work best here.

I shot one a few weeks ago at night that was my first and what a RUSH . On the remote the USB plug what dose that do ? The expert hunts I like I used those for the one I shot at night

The USB is for uploading extra calls, that you can download from Primos, or you can use free MP3, but the names need to be a MAXIMUM of 18 characters, or they come up No_Name.
You can rename them in the windows editor to the correct length, and on the Primos website is a complete description how to do this

Here's the link to that
