Huge coyote

sir, we are talking about coyotes, not deer.
I was referring to the fake NYS record that was floating around the internet .It was passed around as being confirmed by the NYS dec. had pictures of it with a deer. supposedly killed A hour from my house. I do know they killed some around 50lbs when coyote contest where legal. But not legal anymore. Now there trying to pass a law to have any coyotes over 50lbs have DNA test to make sure there not wolves.

Here in MI, I'd say once you hit 40lbs it would be considered a "big" coyote. Low 30s for females and mid-to-high 30s for males is common. I believe my personal biggest to date up here was 39lbs. I believe the biggest here from my circle of hunting friends has been 43lbs.

Upper 30’s, low 40’s very common here in central NY. 50lbs is a very large coyote, but they do exist here for sure. My largest ever was 48lbs and change. Big, old manged up male.

I remember the “115 lb record” coyote. Lol.
It was shot in NY… and PA… and lord knows where else!

Nice pic Bob.
My biggest was a 46# male with a shotgun in the daylight-drug that sucker about a mile to the suv so I could take it home to scale it.
That big contest here in PA mentioned above is the "mosquito creek contest" if you want to see the weights.

Just to be clear Mike… That picture is the “Record 115 lb coyote” from the early 2000’s. Here’s the pic of big mange. Shot him under the brightest full moon you could get!

This is the heaviest coyote I have proof of weight for. After taking this picture I realized that the scale wasn't zeroed, and he actually was 2-3lbs heavier than what the scale shows in the picture. Skinned out he was 6'7" from nose to tail. It took 3 shots to stop him. All 3 were fatal, 87gr v-max from a 6mm arc. First shot was at 150y, then he turned and ran straight at me and my nephew, (we were sitting in the closest cover to the call). The second shot was at about 50y, center chest, and the third was at about 20 feet. He literally slid to a stop within 3' of our legs. I looked over at my nephew and his eyes were as big as dinner plates. He thought that giant coyote was coming to eat us.

A big one here is 40+ pounds. I've only weighed two in my life just because they were noticably bigger than most I have shot. One was 44 pounds and the other was 47.6 pounds. I can think of a few others that were pushing 40 pounds but I never put them on a scale. Just knew they were big coyotes and left it at that.

They were both nice lookin coyotes. I've seen mangy coyotes at contest and stuff and a lot of times mangy coyotes are the heaviest. I shot a huge mangy coyote with 3" #4 buck, I think it was last year and he ended up running off. He had to be over 40 pounds. Just going by how big bodied he was. Can't prove it of course but he was a hefty sucker.

I think some of those heavy mangy coyotes are hanging around feed lots. Ive seen several poking around feed lots that looked like huge chupacabras.

Oh yeah, they do hang around places like that where dead livestock, afterbirth and all that kind of stuff are around. During the Winter months they have to eat a lot more just to put on fat to stay warmer since fur ain't an option.

I've noticed coyotes with mange are either the first to the call or they'll stay way out there on a hillside or something and watch a lot of times and come in really slow. My theory is they make a living by being scavengers. They'll either run in to grab that rabbit before others show up or they'll clean up what's left after other coyotes are done eating. Seems like it's always one way or the other. They'll come in like a bat out of hell or they'll be super cautious.

I called in a coyote one time that didn't have a stitch of fur on it. Not only did it come in from downwind but it ran by my truck to get there. It didn't seem to care about much. It was there in a very short time after I started calling. I've also called one in that was just as bad off but it showed up on a bobcat stand about 45 minutes into it. It was creeping in nice and slow. Both of those coyotes got shot.
