How Far Will It Go…..

I was at the range a couple weeks ago when a gentleman decided to put his suppressor on his rifle after shooting without it. It had a QD system of some sort that he failed to get the can firmly attached. My question is How far did he launch that can down range? Your guess to the nearest yard will get you generous praise and recognition if you are right. 😂

I saw a video of one getting shot off. It seemed like it went pretty far, but I didn't really think about it at the time. I'll guess 29 yards.

I watched a SS flash hider fly about 60'. Shooter didn't even realize it flew off, I was prone about 30' to his right(he was on a bench). I hopped up and went over and told him. He told me he had just "built" the AR. I asked him if he had used a crush washer, the blank expression answered my question. I found it in the mowed grass, no apparent damage.

Depending on caliber of suppressor vs the caliber bullet fired and how far the baffles were out of alignment to the bore would be a big factor but I've seen a 6.5 creedmoor launch a 30 cal can 12 or 13 yards from the exact reason, suppressor not correctly locked on qd lugs

That's one of the main reasons I just screw mine on. Too scared something like that would happen.
And now you've got me second guessing my plan on investing in an ASR Bravo mount and flash hiders for several of my rifles that get used during my coyote season for different applications. 🥴

I noticed that the suppressor was slightly misaligned, and was about ready to call it to the shooters attention, when he pulled the trigger. I'm not sure exactly what the rifle was chambered for, but it was a rifle suitable for elk. The answer to the question about how far it went is......... 50 yards!!!! That suppressor didn't touch the ground till it got to the 40 yard mark and then bounced end over end for another 10 yards. He walked out and picked it up and found out it was packed full of dirt. I wouldn't have believed it would have made it that far, but it certainly did.

You guys should read the military TM on how to remove a carbon stuck Surefire, it's actually suggested to unlock and shoot it off!
