How did everyone's season go?

Wrapping up my season and was just curious how everyone did. Got 9 hides back to today and dropped off the last of my hides. Didn't do as well as last year. Work and some home issues kinda tied up the month of March for me. The town I live in got new water lines put in last year and they froze up. I guess they didn't bury them deep enough. Anyhow, I digress. I hope everyone did well this winter. I really must be sick because I love the winter. Final total for the year was 27. I will post when I get that big one's hide back. That was one of the ones I dropped off today. I leave you with a photo of the hides with my coyote hide inspector down in the corner. Like I said, hope you enjoyed your winter season.

Nice!
4 more nights for NY(30th)....feet of snow and tough conditions basically left me with a month and a half to hunt...the wind, both direction and intensity has been taking over for the deep snow.
PA till June 30th. Same weather, but I could travel 20 minutes and be in more manageable snow. We are doing much better than last year also and should surpass that total.

I can pretty much ditto the first half of limbhanger’s post. It was an insane winter here in my part of NY. The season started out okay with 3 or 4 taken before I got serious about chasing deer. When that ended, winter hit, and hit hard! When conditions finally changed for the better it was March. The calling was exceptionally good, but my shooting was dismal with a string of misses that had my head spiraling out of control. Turned out to be my thermal optic had somehow reset to factory zero. Tuned that back in and had a decent comeback for my area. Got until the 30th to keep trying, but not sure how the weather is going to cooperate. I’m at 9 coyotes for the entire season which is dismal. If not for the scope issues, it would probably be 15-16 which is pretty good considering the limited field time. Is what it is.

Overall, I’m just happy to have gotten out. Happy to witness some amazing call ins and reactions from non target species. Happy that it was a safe season with a few opportunities to share my experiences with everyone here on PM. Maybe I’ll have one or two more in the next couple days?

Might make it out another night till my self imposed end of March quit date. It has been a kind of a normal season with 44 killed since Sept. 1. March, as always, has been really slow and Jan. was almost a complete write-off with 3 wks. of bronchitis that started Dec. 26th followed by temps that Suz said I shouldn't be out in after bronchitis and I didn't argue.

Not a bad showing, Mike. 44 is a respectable number in my book. You should invite me down to Southwest PA next year when the snow is past my waist here in Central NY! I can show you how to use Cal’s vocals and you can teach me how to hit a coyote with a bullet! Lol…

Good luck if you make it out one more time buddy! Congrats on a good season!

My season (.223) started Jan 1, called maybe 5 times got nothing but recognizing some of my mistakes and understanding some of the why’s of those mistakes. Feel like I’m slowly maturing at this a bit, seeing some of my obvious weak spots that I need to correct going forward if I’m gonna be successful. like staying completely still on stand, locating first, calling the cover, confirming there is coyotes in the area first instead of randomly calling openings that are convenient, getting off the couch and exploring new roads and areas in the truck, getting into the woods more when it’s dark, getting deeper into the woods, and more.

Sucked. No snow till after the first of the year, but WIND.
The snow hit, and all of January, you could not get off the road to even park, then -40*. March was WIND.
My "season" never ends; I like calling March to September best anyway. I don't save fur, I do take their heads and bleach them and sell them, so fur season means nothing.

Season started out very well for me. But after deer hunting it kinda went south.
I ended up with 15 which is good for my area. Missed 2(shit happens)

But I came down with some kinda virus and did not make it out all of February and part of March. (I felt terrible).
Can't wait until the end of September...I will start fresh.👍

...I finished out NY last night with another really good female. I believe she was the mate to the male I shot Friday night( called in quad)(saw the other pair 1 hour later)...
She was solo, and I waited as long as I could if she had a partner and let her wander off another 100 yards.

Well, this has been my best season so far at 16 coyotes, breaking my previous record of 12. On top of that, it has been my worst year in that I had two wounded runaways and one complete miss, I should be at # 19. Given that I hunt a particular bait site every year on one piece of property, and the fact that we don’t have a huge coyote population, I guess I did pretty good, considering. However, every bit as pleasurable as the 16 is the joy I had staying at the shack, heating up some food and hot coffee, peacefulness as well as testing both a new rifle and thermal scope. Taking some coyotes was basically icing on the cake, and a culmination of various items of equipment working together to achieve success.

Congratulation to everyone for your successes as well as experiences. I’m sure all those who are ending season are as anxious as I am to resume again in the fall. I will start again in August or September.

Excellent number for back here Ron and still 3 months till you start a new count. Lots of miles and field time. Not to mention a quick frozen pond treck.

Not bad for my second year. First year was two, this year six.....with two misses. ....and I'm only sitting watching a single bait pile. Maybe I should learn to use this caller over the summer.
